Soaked in judgemental messages regarding sex work, this Mikio Naruse film set at rehabilitation facility for female prostitutes bring all the old tropes regarding such women. A little too much on the moral side of the issue with shock value twists to punch the point in, but it certainly made for a interesting film on the subject. And that's kind of the thing, it's more interesting than good. At this point of his career it's one of the most interesting films Naruse had made and well worth seeing.
