What We Do Is Secret

Love the Germs. Didn't love this movie. Was expecting to be disappointed, but fuck.

Disappointing biographical slice from LA punk icon Darby Crash's life is played mostly for cartoon laughs and faux pathos. The biggest problem is that this doesn't feel like LA, nor like the time period, nor do the characters. Nice to see portrayed Crash's rumored sexual confusion and West isn't a bad performer in the show scenes but this really seems like a half-hearted attempt to sell a few records. Bad PR, IMO.

There's a million of these things out there but West's performance and the music (although that's a matter of personal taste, of course) makes this one stand out from the crowd a bit. Ultimately dug it.

Extremely enjoyable if you like the Germs. Enjoyable if you know who the Germs are. Alright and/or annoying if you don't know who the Germs are. Awful if you like Dream Theater.

punk misbehaves like punk, somebody ruins band relationship, punk overdoses. If there was a story worth making here they didn't bring it out.
