Pretty good black comedy with eccentric, but grounded, characters and a nice sense of tragic fun.

Absolutely watchable, just not on par with Almodovar's later fores into melodrama and desire. The relationship between Maura's mother and her son is ridiculously charming and borderline inappropriate (does she pimp her son out to the creepy dentist?!), a fascinating combination.

Viewed January 17, 2017. A neorealist comedy which tackles uneasy subjects with total ease. A total jumble of influences and ideas which nevertheless coalesce into something great, idiosyncratic, and purely Almodovar. Name another film that could pull off the image of the bloodstained lizard that we get here, for example.

Even campier and quite a bit darker than later Almodovar, almost like a better Todd Solondz. Slightly less colorful, maybe even somewhat depressing. Still very amusing though

It divides me. I love some parts because they are terribly real, and I love some parts because they are absolutely absurd, unreal and funny.

There are those that deride Almodóvar's early films and point to his later works as proof that he's a great filmmaker, but as far as I can tell, everything that makes Almodóvar's later films great can be found here, just with half the budget and a vibe John Waters would be proud of. Silliness aside, it's actually a compelling critique of family life in Madrid, with Almodóvar's characteristic focus on women and the villainous way in which society condemns them to servitude.

A curious comedy (not that it's that funny) that feels grounded in reality, yet despite this is still very flexible with its humour. An aimless and unremarkable film, reasonably fun to watch.

Typically scrappy, rough early effort from Almodovar has flashes of style here and there, and a subtly intriguing and forceful performance by Lampreave as the grandmother, but film eventually sinks beneath the weight of its aimless, needlessly convoluted story, and abrasive, obnoxious characters.

Bizarre little movie... a bit like a fever dream I had as a child.

One of his MOST underrated movies!! Often damned by the criticks, Almodovar created a satirical and black comedy with an awesome Carmen Maura who shows her hole potencial. Almodovar spreads sideblows in all directions... ( what does emanciaption means when a wife get's treated like a dog by her husband ?? ) great Movie. Use your brain and think about it..besides all seriousness "what have I done to deserve this" offers enough moments to laugh.
