I'd go so far as to say that this movie bridged the styles of 80s and 90s comedies quite handily. It's hilarious and if you're doing a class on film history, check this out if you've never seen it.

Hilarious comedy is Murray's best vehicle, and he's matched by Dreyfuss as the psychologist at wits end. Funny all the way through with some truly hilarious sequences. One of the rare comedies that doesn't compromise itself by trying to be more than what it is--- which may be it's greatest asset (aside from the two leads, of course).

Pitched somewhat awkwardly between a black comedy and a family film, W.A.B? gets by on the strength of its cast, despite its unfortunate descent into cartoonish farce in its lousy third act. Murray and Dreyfuss' mutual dislike of each other probably helped intensify their scenes together, and it's always fun watching Dreyfuss blow his lid, especially in tailor made comedic roles. Murray effectively tones down his persona to play a hopeless neurotic, and there are a few big laughs.

Decorum- and protocol-obsessed alpha male Dreyfuss is effortlessly undermined by Murray's interloper, who, while unstable, offers a kinder, gentler, less controlling take on the role of father. Interesting premise but very bland style, a little too cute for my taste, and becomes clearly insincere as it escalates into cartoon absurdity. Could have been a lot more meaningful, even controversial, but instead it declaws itself in the name of mass appeal. Bad music as well.

It says something about how immersed I've been in the world of SNL that I was unable to watch this without constantly thinking of Darrell Hammond's pitch perfect Richard Dreyfuss impression. The movie itself is nothing special and the entire course of the plot can be predicted within the first fifteen minutes, but there are funny moments and Murray is dependably entertaining.

The character dynamic at the core of this film is comedic gold: A severely anxious patient (the fantastic Murray's endearingly naive Bob) obtains a new psychiatrist (Dreyfuss' high-strung Leo) and clambers for attention while all the doc wants to do is get rid of him so he can enjoy his vacation. As the patient persists (and improves) in blissful ignorance, the doc goes crazy. It's a plot that reaches preposterous proportions ("Death Therapy, Bob!") but never loses its original character humour.

Well it's a good-old-fashioned kind of comedy movie for the whole family. Bill Murray is not bad in it, but it somehow doesn't feel like "a Bill Murray movie." More like a comedy that just happened to feature him in a starring role. Of course, this was back in the days when he would do a lot more general comedies, and not just movies made by good friends of his, such as Wes Anderson.

Murray lacks the guilelessness to pull this off (or the ability to fake it), and it doesn't help to have the script paving his way into everyone's heart but the doctor's. Dreyfuss, in his precisely calculated and calibrated way, misses no increment of impatience as the hounded Freudian.

While Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss show some decent acting chops, this really isn't that funny of a movie. These were the kind of roles that these two guys would normally get so that tin a way these roles would fit like a glove. I wasn't too impressed with the rest of the cast though.
