West Of Sunshine

Damian Hill did a fine job with an undesirable role. There was a lot of very slow pacing. A few small highlights and the overall theme of desperation were the highlights. There was not much to recommend. Very little action. Not particularly rewarding but perhaps worth watching as a cautionary tale about the risks of gambling.

Low-key, low budget crime movie has a certain lack of tension and the high stakes required of the genre, but is still an admirable, gritty effort with a commanding and haunted leading performance from Hill (who sadly passed away after filming). Definitely shows promise on both sides of the camera, with Raftopoulos creating a convincing feel for the sweaty, seedy milieu of the lower class criminal, but could have used either more fireworks or a little more character development.
