In an overstuffed awards season, Weird outshines fellow contenders like Elvis and Tar by playing it grounded, seeking the complex human frailty of its players by honing in on just the facts and events. From the debauched polka parties of his youth (leave young kids at home) to his booze-filled affair with one-hit-wonder and Interpol most-wanted Madonna, Weird wisely finds fidelity by investigating the truely true inspirations of Al’s greatest creative achievements. A real vision of a visionary.

Not very rewatchable once you've seen the twists. Then again, music biopics aren't really my thing so this parody of the genre was notable. Daniel Radcliffe is too distinctive for me to get lost in his Weird Al character. The cameos are distracting as well, since the camera would keep panning over to the cameo. I really liked how the friends were so supportive from the beginning. Fav scenes: "not the technically best, but the most famous accordion player in a very specific genre"

It’s so proud of thinking it has invented the unreliable artist’s bio-pic (the same way “Beat it” is a cover of “Eat it”) that it goes easy on having actual jokes. A pity, really.

Something about this movie feels a little off... OF COURSE, IT'S PACKED WITH LSD! The best-put-together mock musical biopic since "Walk Hard", Radcliffe shines in this kinetic comedy that, while I think it lacks the re-watchability of a movie like "Walk Hard", stays entertaining throughout. It probably deserved a greater signal-boost than "figure out how to watch it on Roku". Packed full of fun cameos, and reminds you throughout that, mock biopic or not, Weird Al is a bonafide musical genius.

Radcliffe consistently delivers, especially when it comes to the weird; unfortunately The Al Yankovic Story didn't quite work for me. I liked the concept, the constant parade of both familiar faces & parodied celebs, and the cleverness of a lot of the jokes. My problem was that the film seemed to get weaker as it went on. The music becomes just another song, the plot gets a bit too silly, and the film feels like it has run its course before the end. It's still enjoyable and very Weird Al.

A cute fun time that should have leaned more into the madcap Wain-Showalter energy side and less into the more typical parody side

Delightfully silly. I was laughing throughout, and a couple of moments in particular had me laughing really hard. The whole running bit with Eat It/Beat It is hysterical. I do think there was one huge missed joke opportunity though; the payoff to the runner about not knowing what the dad's factory makes should have been revealing that it's an accordion factory.

I grew up listening to Weird Al, and he was the first person I ever saw in concert. I'm so excited this movie came out. It's a hilarious jab at the Oscar-bait musician biopics of late.

This is a very quirky and bizarre biopic about someone I'd heard of but not known a great deal about. If your like me, at multiple points in the film you'll be left wondering 'did that really happen?' yet either way its certainly an entertaining and often quite amusing film, in a sort of a slapstick, random quirkiness kind of a way, with an obvious eccentric as the main character. Not everyone will like that sort of thing but if it sounds intriguing then its certainly worth a watch.

Amusing parody on biopics and subversion of '60s-'80s history. This makes up some of the funnier jokes in the film, of which in total there's a decent amount. But you're quick to getting the subversion it's doing, and that soon makes some of the jokes and parodies predictable, since they're doing the opposite of what you expect (even though by now you already expect it). Probably Radcliffe's best performance -- that's not saying much at all, but he's funny.

It is a fun exaggerated look at the life of one of the most original musicians to ever blast out of a sound system. Weird Al is zany, whacky and this film pokes fun at the intense nature of biopics. Radcliffe is great and is having the time of his life. Truly some of his best work. I did enjoy it for it was. Perhaps some bits could have been funnier towards the end. Overall thought it does make you laugh and that is the intention of this film.

Slows down a bit a bit past half, but it picks up again and ends beautifully. It's really silly but it is funny still. Gutsy without gratuitous provocation. A public too young or unfamiliar with his work might miss the references all over

Pretty fun! I probably missed a lot of jokes that would require knowing literally any Weird Al song, but making this fake biopic about a parody musician a parody of movie biopics was a great idea that totally works without having any background knowledge.

An amazing evocation by Radcliffe makes this often witty and clever parody of a parody good fun – the first half is an irresistible mix of absurd silliness and wacky punning that would put the ZAZ boys to shame. At the sidetrip to Columbia, you can almost feel the writer’s room run out of ideas, moving to ungainly and lurching plotting, and leading to a rushed and overdone finale. Great cameos help smooth the way, and Wood as Madonna almost matches her leading man for uncanny likeness.

I started to love WEIRD once it got past all the biopic parody things WALK HARD did first (and better), and found its footing as an absurd alternate history of '80s cultural excess. In its best moments, it's like UHF for the Blockbuster era, as if inspired by too many late-night VHS marathons of Cannon films.

This delivers hard. One of the most enjoyable watches I've seen all year, brought to me by the Roku Channel of all things. Daniel Radcliffe is superb, Al's cameo appearances are great, the SLEW of other cameos is much appreciated, Evan Rachel Wood makes an amazing Madonna. It makes fun of biopics while throwing just enough nuggets of truth in the mix to somewhat work as an actual biopic. This is one that should be seen, and not just because it's pretty much free. It's just really good.

The first half is absolutely hilarious, but then Madonna overstays her welcome, and the joke of it all starts to wear thin. Still everyone involved is giving it their all. Radcliffe is cast perfectly and there are a bunch of great cameos. I'd say if you're a Weird Al fan than this is a must watch, but everyone else is probably fine skipping it.

I grew up a Weird Al fan, and he's probably one of the few celebrities that everyone universally loves. It pains me to say that I didn't love this film. There's some really good jokes! But it seems to rest on the idea of doing a straight parody of Weird Al's life, and only starts to get truly silly towards the end. Also, it really didn't need to be 110 minutes.

Damn, RIP Al :( Gone too soon. I didn't follow trailers so didn't realize until I watched it that it's a parody of Al, which makes total sense. I didn't laugh as much as I wanted to, despite the excellent Radcliffe performance and the zaniness of what is going on. So I can't say I loved it, but I certainly enjoyed it a lot. I like how it plays with the Weird Al "mythology," I think that's what ultimately puts it up to an 80 for me. Thinking about it later... it's just so silly (like Al).
