Saw this when it first came out, and I've always had a soft spot for it. How can anything with Paxton and VERNON WELLS in the cast fail to deliver? The cast overall is pretty good, Hall in particular. There are a few missteps, but it's generally entertaining all the way through. It could maybe be seedier, of course - teenage boys' heads are full of filth that would never make it to the screen. Likeable nonsense.

Entertaining and funny, Weird Science has a cast that keeps you hooked all the way through rather or not it's a good movie. I thought it was fine! Good leads and a decent sense of humor. Not my favorite John Hughs movie but it isn't his worst by a mile.

Not a good movie, but it's wacky enough to flail around for its runtime and try different predictable things. I'll just pretend it tries to be bad on purpose. I hope the script was written by actual teenage boys and not grown adults. Chet was especially murderous. Like a bad Bill & Ted with changing haircuts. Fav scenes: you create your fantasy girl and what's your first act? Strip down with your best friend and watch her shower together, of course! Also, trippy computer effects.

This film was a favorite of mine as a kid. It is still funny today. The cast is great, everyone does a great job with their roles. Bill Paxton steals every scene he is in. There are a lot of laughs during the entire film. Overall I highly recommend this film.

Nostalgia glasses on: Really good movie, the boy in me liked all the computer stuff. It was stunning witnessing what they could do at that time, connect to servers and download everything!... It's really a non-stop nerdgasm from start to finish. Reality glasses on: Take it as a fairy tale set in an 80's world. Some people wins, some peoples looses, you learn something and Robert Downey Jr is in there too. You'll love it!

Top badass moment? Listen, if you really could create your own 'perfect woman' with an old computer, a 'floppy' floppy disk and a narrowband connection, I'd be doing it right now rather than writing this. If it was possible, it would be way off the badass scale. No cats, decapitations or chainsaws.

Isn't this uneven, crazy picture every boy's dream? To be alone at home with your best friend an entire weekend and you both come up with the idea of creating the hottest girl ever, that will help you guys get along with girls, confront your mean big brother and erase your mom and dad's minds? Silly, yes, very silly, but still pretty exciting.

This fantasy-comedy is dumb (and often tasteless) but also pretty funny and watchable. Paxton steals it as Hall's abusive older brother who gets turned into a huge toad monster. Too bad Hughes's script (written in between more "serious" teen-oriented films) never really develops its premise in any truly interesting ways. LeBrock, though, never looked sexier.

What nobody ever remembers about this movie is that in the beginning they give Kelly LeBrock the intelligence of a 5th grader. They basically create an underdeveloped retard to masturbate into. Now you may say to me "hey, that fact isn't reflected at all in Kelly LeBrock's performance." Well, I would say that that's just an indication of how shitty this movie really is.

Promising opening 15 minutes, but after the 2 nerds create their perfect woman the film rapidly goes off the rails and becomes ever more zany in an attempt to find its way back to something resembling a finale. Rocket in bedroom? Check. Blue kitchen? Check. Mutant bikers? Check. Falls way short of Ferris Bueller and Risky Business, the two films it most closely resembles. But funny to see a very young Robert Downey Jr.

Honestly, this movie could not exist if it was made today. A looot of cringeworthy stuff I did not consider when I was watching it as a kid. All I thought was that it was cool there was a woman who could create everything you ever wanted (like a Porsche 928). That it's got a grown woman (computer generated, but still) sexing up two kids is pretty horrible. But I have to admit, it was pretty funny in parts, still.

Unusual sci-fi premise for the usually more grounded Hughes is never capitalised on – the opening scenes point towards a more interesting and mature comedy ala RISKY BUSINESS, but this ultimately takes the ENCINO MAN route, bogging down in a repetitive and juvenile mid-section before attempting a half-hearted “Be Yourself” moral. Has its moments, thanks to Hall’s adroit comic timing and LeBrock’s finest hour, bringing credibilty by playing her absurd character dead seriously.

This film is a kind of anticipation of the toxic masculinity and misogyny of the tech bro culture that was soon to be; a precursor to 'Ex Machina'. Or perhaps it's just a rather poor coming of age film about teenage lust out of control. In any case, Mitchell-Smith is the weak link and to a lesser extent LeBrock in what is a cast that really embraces their respective roles (Paxton, Hall and Downey Jnr are particularly good).

A classic 80's movie that is so contained in its period that its silliness feels overly ridiculous, but can also have hints of nostalgia to those who have experienced the 80's first hand. The only redeeming aspects of the film that I found are Robert Downey Jr's career-early screen time, and Kelly LeBrock who is as pretty as the 80's could possibly give us. The film would have been better as a strong B-movie with a certificate different than PG-13. Overall - entertaining enough, but forgettable.

Weird Science is one of those movies that encompasses a generation. It doesn't really fit into this world but the world that it came from is saved like a time capsule in the cracks of this movie. Weird Science is one of the lesser John Hughes movies but it still has some fun. It isn't the smartest movie but it's a fun romp through the 80's that anybody who's ever been a nerdy outcast or at least understands that outlook can find entertaining. I've seen it enough times but I might watch it again.

(Viewed on 25/06/13): Weird Science is a high concept comedy that aims low and generally succeeds at nailing its dubious targets. Its silly premise may reek of 80's cheese, but Hughes does about as good of a job as anyone could have with such flimsy material. LeBrock plays it just right, with a memorably alluring mix of smarts and sex appeal (she understands what film she is in) and the film is instantly better the moment she enters the frame. Without her it's just a passable period teen comedy.

The shtick wears out very quickly with Weird Science. Starting out as a mildly funny movie with a semi-original premise, the "nerds can't get laid" jokes could only stretch on for so long. Not only that, but Ilan Mitchell-Smith can't act and it's painfully clear here. The truth is, Weird Science is nothing more than a high school boy's wet dream. It could have been executed better to get a 65, but the idea was flawed from the start. However, this movie does gets bonus points for Oingo Boingo.

How can a loser like me ever deny having the fantasy of a beautiful woman suddenly appearing, welcoming me into sexual maturity, and then releasing me into the wild? So of course this film appeals to me. That being said, it's kinda really shallow, and not in a humorous way. I really dig the concept, not so much the execution. Also: Was Lisa's purpose to turn 15-year-olds into men, or was she just an ephebophile?

It's good if you're really looking for a corny teenage comedy from the 80s, I suppose. But it was weird to me how the movie couldn't even seem to keep its own plot straight. First this woman is just the perfectly-designed sex fantasy come to life, then it seems more like her purpose is to make the protagonists popular with other girls... Later we see that she can apparently operate all electronics telepathically, and this soon devolves into plain old magical infinite god powers.
