The awkwardness of this movie sometimes fits with the story, but other times it makes it tough to get through. Characters will have long drawn out talks of just stating aloud how they feel or what they are doing. The commentary of how small town masses can become monstrous is done well, but some instances seem to contradict themselves. Good performances and atmosphere, but very off as far as generating suspense or intrigue.

Loved the book, but this felt a bit too tv-movie.

Good lead acting sisters, good mood and got better towards the very end. I also loved the last chat between sisters. But all the rest was boring and wasting opportunity.

What a quirky movie that seems to go nowhere.

Follows the book well, though I though Merricat was a bit too drab, and Constance a bit too glamorous.

Probably better suited as a short story. The theme of a mob mentality in a small town reminded me of The Lottery. At the same time, I recall people telling me that churches and charities should provide welfare instead of the government---what do we do about town pariahs then? Stan is a good creepy cousin. Daddario's miscast since I can't believe such a recluse would look like her. This movie's long pauses of action give me ample time to ponder. Fav scene: mob reacting after first stone cast.
