The Taxi (1931) remake Warner Bros attempted to launch Dennis Morgan into stardom. I was a bit torn about this one. You can see qualities here and Morgan tries, but he doesn't come across believable enough in that torment role for me. It's also clear that WB were more economical that usual with the way this remake was constructed. In the end this doesn't touch the Cagney original.
