Waterboys is a thoroughly enjoyable high school comedy with occasional unfeigned moments of joy and camaraderie that few films hope to achieve. Hilarious at every turn, Waterboys brilliantly builds up to a satisfying ending.

I love these kinds of Japanese sport films. Even formulaic ones like this entertain.

A fun, harmless bit of entertainment which manages to go a tiny step further than the generic "losers achieve" blueprint, thanks to its willingness to go all out and throw a lot of random jokes at the audience. Some stick, some don't... aside from that, you could say the characters have little depth, but at least they are cute and wacky. A shallow movie, maybe for shallow people, but what did you expect from a synchronised swimming high school comedy?
