Ten years after "Kids," Larry Clark hits the streets of South Central Los Angeles. Wassup Rockers is based on the real life experiences of a group of Latino teenagers who do not conform to the hip hop culture of their gang-infested neighborhood. They wear their clothes tight, listen to and play punk rock, and ride skateboards. Constantly harassed for being different, they fight to be themselves. (First Look Releasing)

This has a lot of the same elements that made me like and in some cases dislike in the previous works of this director. Most of which is on display in it's worst form. So that's something to think about, also i doesn't help that this isn't nearly as interesting or effective as his other movies, which makes some of the creepier moments stick out even more so than before and boy does that make a good portion of this movie look bad! Pretty messy, a few moments that stick out but not good at all.

Top badass moment? Whassup?! Remember that ad campaign, where we learnt that Budweiser (an oversweet, fizzy lager of last resort) robs you of your mind and makes you talk shite? So some punks from 'the ghetto' go for a trip to Beverly Hills to skateboard but end up in increasingly farcical situations. But most of the time they're just falling off their boards and talking like they've been drinking Budweiser. The hardcore punk soundtrack is decent though. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

A somewhat interesting film. Pretty tame for Larry Clark

"Clark's portrait of mostly Salvadorian boys who shirk hip-hop and guns for punk and skateboards is fashioned around a series of alternately cutesy and shrill sexually-charged sketches." - Ed Gonzalez

You know, a lot of people hate this for the mindless ranting and repetition, but realistically it was a literal depiction of the limited vocab these young individuals share. The film was supposed to be frantic and messy, similar to the drumline of their punk music. You could see the influence from "Gummo" in the skateboard scene with the music. I was disappointed in how they abandoned fallen comrades since the film was really about "friends." Janice D. getting fried in the tub added 10 points!

Weird.. In high school I knew guys just like this.. It's a beautiful portrayal and surprisingly accurate in some respects.
