Really cheesy but kinda fun. Julian Sands and Richard E. Grant sell their howlingly ridiculous dialogue like the pros they are.

Warlock flies like Pumpkinhead walks if you get my drift. There is something endearing about Julian Sands witching about as though he isn't in a trash film, and honestly, that alone raises it up out of the heap. Mary Woronov has a fun appearance as a psychic. Richard E. Grant is essentially Hugh Grant without the fetching unaware smarm that makes me hate him so damn much.

While no singular aspect of "Warlock" is in any way above average, admittedly most are below average, it is a strange a miraculous case of the whole being better than the sum of its parts. As far as offbeat late 80's horror movies go, this is an unsung classic and I dare you not to have fun.

A gorier and sleazier version of The Terminator, as written by ergot-crazed agrarian Christians from Elizabethan England. Not at all disappointing, but far from notable.

Its pros are Julian Sands' great performance, some solid effects that could've been much worse, and no fear at all to get grizzly & gruesome with its darker moments. Grant & Singer are fine in their roles, & the plot is okay for what it is. Ultimately, though, the whole thing never moves past being just okay & never really ramps up the intensity at any point. Part odd-couple/fish out of water comedy, part horror movie & part urban fantasy, it's a mixed bag. Not awful, but not great either.

The wonderfully weird WARLOCK really gets the most out of its premise: a witch-hunter and his quarry are transported from colonial New England to 20th century Los Angeles. Part horror, part fantasy romance, and part road movie, it's a satisfying old-school tale: good and evil are clearly defined, with its villain remaining an unpredictable, visceral threat throughout. As adversaries, Sands and Grant add much to the broad fish-out-of-water plot that cries out for a prequel set in Puritan times.

I thought this movie was a lot of fun. There are many more utterly incompetent horror movies out there that make this one look like a gem. I especially like when he makes the flying potion out of the kid... classic.

More fun might have ensued had the warlock and the witch-hunter ended up on a dusty street with, say, Henry Fonda

That gave me a good laugh. And that witch-hunter wearing pieces of his aunt's fur coats, rocking an '80s hair cut in spite of coming from the 1600s

This movie is actually pretty cool if you're into the whole witchcraft/occult/black magic thing. In that respect it's well done for it's budget.

Gets silly & campy in places, but it's a fun movie. Julian Sands plays the part of the Warlock with sinister glee, and Richard E. Grant is a badass as the witch hunter.

An imaginative story line and off-beat to say the least. You won't be surprised to hear that the workmanlike performances didn't win at the Oscars but it was proficiently delivered. Many similar films followed but this has the benefit of being the trend setter. It's worth watching if only for that reason.

the terminator in reverse, but with lots of witchcraft-lore fun and a decent enough cast. yep, i liked it. imagine the warlock had traveled to our current time, the frequent flyer miles he could collect with the amount of fat, unbaptized boys around! oh no, #bodyshaming.

Not a bad movie, but not particularly good, either. It's a decent concept for a horror film that hadn't really been tackled before, but this film only sort of gets the job done. Worth seeing for the novelty factor...otherwise, it's not one for the hall of fame.

Richard E. Grant plays a 17th century witchhunter who pursues a warlock to modern times to prevent him from reassembling a Satanic book. Cheesy but still pretty fun and Julian Sands is deliciously evil.
