War Room

Christian movie done right.

While it is it has a thin and melodramatic plot, War Room succeeds at pleasing its target audience. Because of its lack of character development and immense amount of tears shed on camera, it doesn't make for a great movie, but it makes for a good sermon tool.

I started to watch this in a room full of European hardcore Catholics – the kind of people who believe in literal demons intervening in life. (Long story.) After the first few minutes they said “this is too ridiculous, let’s watch something else”. It’s that kind of film.

Good Movie

The Kendrick movies are getting better and better! This movie, although beautifully crafted with humour and grit, cuts past the things that blur reality and there leaves a mark on the soul that's everlasting. It expresses the practical love of God without pulling punches. It gives me a testimony grid of rememberance and vision of what I only used to walk in, what I'm starting to walk in, and where I could still walk. A firy message carried by extraordinary acting - this one is a life-changer.

I had the lowest expectations walking into this, but that being said it still wasn't good at all.

I got to stop watching these religious movies. They give me a preaching headache. The story basically claim God and Jesus will fix your marriage so don't worry about it, and it's a black movie with token insignificant white people in it. This one had lots of votes on IMDB, so without doing any research I thought it was a significant movie. It wasn't. Someone has been fixing the numbers with several thousand 10 out of 10 votes.

Now, a drama about prayer warriors isn't like a thriller about cold warriors, but the Kendrick Brothers still manage to give the story oomph as they illustrate how a commitment to prayer (and time spent in God's Word as well) actually accomplishes what Paul describes in Romans 12:2: "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
