Because it comes off as rather insubstantial by itself (it's really more of long ending than anything else), I recommend that one watches the fourth and final part of Bondarchuk's masterpiece in the same sitting as the third.

When it comes time to convey the cosmic significance of the novel’s themes, there is a sense of trying to illustrate ideas rather than having them emerge in a more “organic” way from the material. Still, as a whole, the work is surprisingly successful, and, despite the immense scale of the production, the filmmakers succeeded in paying attention to the microcosmic level, and at times achieved a poignant intimacy that would still be grounded in an imaginative use of cinematic technique.
