Voltaire

I love myself some George Arliss. He was the first dramatic actor to make a mark with me when I entered the sound era with that well delivered Disraeli (1929). Voltaire was the only one of his talkies I had not seen, but no longer! A film true of that George Arliss spirit. Built on wit and one-upmanship against the powers that be. Excellent support from Reginald Owen, Margaret Lindsay and most of all Alan Mowbray, who played the villain like a pro. A sly costume drama/comedy that pleases.
