Volcano

Very natural acting, the main guy doing really strong work. Though it's well-composed, treating a difficult subject maturely and unflinchingly, the thing is that the pacing and the nature of the grim story, though arguably necessary, make this a very tough and depressing watch. Objectively, this probably deserves a higher score, but watchability has enter into the equation, too, I'll submit.

quiet and downbeat story of mortality that has clear parallels to amour. in fact, even though this sort of concept doesn't require an awful lot of imagination, it would seem enormously surprising that there wasn't some correspondence between the two filmmakers given how similar in close details at least two key scenes are. a very sad film, but i suppose some familiarity with that film, released only one year later, somewhat lessens the emotional impact.

Better than Amour.

The Icelandic 'Amour' plotwise. But where Haneke contemplated on love in death, this is more about love in life. Very strong performances.

Here's an odd film. It's very slow paced. It's dealing with some relatable themes, but some gross stuff, too. Gross in its depressing nature, I think. It's emotionally draining, a bleak reflection on a life lived as a rock. A coming to terms with what I reckon is a very common type of man on Iceland. Maybe in Europe, or the world. Spearheaded by an astounding performance by an actor I have never seen before. It's definitely worth looking up, but I don't know if I'd like to see it again
