Virtue

Might not be the most exciting story around, but there is a certain realness about it as prostitute Carole Lombard tries to get her life straight by marrying a cabbie. Pat O'Brien & Lombard have a good chemistry together without getting too soppy about it. Good hearted working class atmosphere with polluting elements interfering in their life enough to keep the story shaking. And most of all solid acting making it worth wild!

Easy to like domestic drama about a prostitute trying to go straight. It's nicely not about any transformation on her part-- that happens off screen-- but about her husband's morphing from MRA cretin to honest hubby. Lombard is gorgeous and O'Brien nicely sympathetic.

One of the most predictable storylines I've seen in awhile, but, by the end, I ended up liking this a lot. A good film about overcoming the trials of marriage. Great performances all around. Strangely, the first entire minute of the film is blacked out due to the Hays Code (sound only).
