This seemed a lot more like an extended length episode of the anime series of the same name (well, Violet Evergarden anyway). Its a nice watch, with the usual mix of thoughtful dialogue, interesting characters and a nice sense of poignancy, plus some quite nice settings but I didn't feel it had the same plot structure or quite the same sense of drama or tension as 'Violet Evergarden: The Movie'. If I had to choose between the two films to recommend to a fan, then I'd say go for the other film.

Everything you loved about the series and more. Finally gives enough attention to Benedict's ludicrous outfit. The dance scene is maybe the most beautiful piece of animation in recent memory.

A lovely sequel to one of my favorite anime shows in recent years.

How beautiful and fucking heartbreaking that this celebration of delivering happiness to people was completed a day before so many people were robbed of the opportunity to do just that. And how fucking bittersweet that the astonishing directorial debut of rising star Haruka Fujita is also the last completed work for Mikiko Watanabe, Hiroyuki Takahashi, and so many others. I lost it when the credits showed the names of all the victims (at Fujita's special request).
