Short and sweet, which is how I like Burton best. Wouldn't have worked nearly as well without Vincent Price himself narrating.

Hah, this is great. Hearing Vincent Price reciting such lines as "For a boy his age he's considerate and nice, but he wants to be just like Vincent Price." has filled a void in my life that I never knew was there.

I don't get why everyone says they are blown away that this is a first film. Citizen Kane was a first film, The 400 Blows was a first film, Breathless was a first film. The fact that this is a first film doesn't impress me at all. For what it is, it's okay, but it's not anything special. I mean, I guess it would be special if you are into Dr. Suess style rhyming and below average animation but it looks like I'm not. Oh well.

Vincent is a nice little short and all, but it's not the mind-blower it's often cracked up to be. Nothing here is particularly brilliant, fun, or clever. Disappointing.

Early work from Burton is narratively skimpy (at 6 minutes long, it has to be!) but as a historical artifact, this is interesting to see the budding seeds of the film-maker he would become; mixture of portrait of the ghoulish outsider, capped by suitably plummy narration from Price, is good fun, with some strikingly off-kilter design work in the animation.

Simply fantastic animation and one of Burton's best works, made all the better by Price's peerless voice.

I actually enjoy this more than almost anything else by Burton. There's no desire to impress, to remake classic movies, or to earn money; just a love of B-movie horror films and a creepy but beautiful aesthetic.

Tim Burton was very good at the whole gothic comedy thing before he ran it into the ground. Fluid animation, great lighting, and of course, Vincent Price.

I love this stupid, macabre story. It's got Tim Burton all over it. It's also fun to see the similarities between this short and future films The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride.

To escape the madness he reached for the door, / But fell limp and lifeless down on the floor. / His voice was soft and very slow, / As he quoted The Raven from Edgar Allan Poe, / "And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor, / Shall be lifted - Nevermore!"

You can see 'Tim Burton' written all over the place, his visual style and passion for what he's making is everywhere, and the result is a cool, funny and entertaining short film. The animation is amazing too, and the voice acting by Vincent Price is just priceless.

Tim Burton's debut short sets out the stall for what would be his trademark look and style for years to come. This Vincent Price-narrated tale is an amusing, well-animated and well-written (undoubtedly semi-autobiographical) little tale but... much alike most of his following work, there's still something missing to give it that extra edge.

Honestly mediocre animation, horrible script (what's a "meter" and how do I use it?!), but lovely lilting narration by Price. As far as firsts go this one's no Manos, but certainly no Citizen Kane either.

An atmospheric example of Burton before Disney sank a commercial claw into his familiar dark aesthetic. The stop-motion is crude, unfinished, and all the more beautiful for it. A must-see for fans.

"Vincent" is a dark tale, typical of Tim Burton, and a sample of what was yet to come. Vincent Price's narration is excellent, matching with Burton's visuals in a creepy, hair-rising way.

Childhood revisited. Wonderfully macabre, it oddly echoes the heart of Edgar Allan Poe, portraying in cadence the soul of evil at its bud, or simply a child's inner world which judges everything in a B&W way - as illustrated by the gloomy visuals - and easily succumbs to the siren calls of punishment for those too drab and simpleminded to understand or follow, sinks in a world of darkness, rests in a bed of claws and falls into morbid daydreams. Who hasn't dreamed of being Vincent Price?

All the Burton Adventure zipped into 5 minutes. I burst into tears when Victor was called Vincent by mistake in Corpse Bride. Infact he is Vincent grown up. With the simplistic expressionist visuals on this short, Burton's references are far more appearent than his feature lenghts.

Burton is first solidified as the silver screen's answer to Ed Gorey through this gleefully gothic cinematic nursery rhyme. If reading Poe fills you with joy, you will love this.
