Viktor und Viktoria

Creative jokes, non-annoying songs and interesting ideas about the perception and expectations on gender made this the biggest surprise of the year for me. It wears off a bit in the second part when it becomes a story about a man chasing the (inner) woman again, but considering Walbrook's homosexuality even this can make you think about heteronormativity.

The original version of Victor Victoria (1982), or First a Girl (1935) as the first English speaking version was called. Renate Müller does well. Not that any women ever look like men in these types of films, but she carries her part well. And while it's only a light comedy film, the production is nicely done and manages to gradually enhance the enjoyment instead of getting stale in it's gender confusion.
