Vicki

I Wake Up Screaming is a great film, it didn't need a remake. That said, this is a pretty good film on its own merits. The leading man isn't anything special, but Jeanne Crain is wonderful as Vicki and Richard Boone is one scary noir dude. Together they are more than enough to make this version worth checking out. The story is still a great one, tense, fun and well paced, and the cinematography is wonderful.

Richard Boone stands in Laird Cregar's shoes and he almost fills them.

Has some okay noir elements, but would be pretty bland if not for one thing: Richard Boone's riveting performance as Cornell the crazy cop. It's a very odd take on the usual "intuitive cop who always gets his man" role. The rest of the cast is rather underwhelming, although serviceable. The story is decent as far as these things go... not too surprising, but not bad. Overall it's okay, but it really doesn't do much to establish any kind of mood.

The only thing I really liked about this movie was Richard Boone's voice.

Good fast-paced film noir.
