Vénus aveugle

Ambitious film from the French master of epics Abel Gance. This when most others had to halt their productions because of the war. Not Gance! He trooped on making a film about despair, trying to make uplifting ending to this tragedy. Not sure how successful the ending felt, but it adds to the many disillusions in the story. Always trying to twist the knife for extra emotional effect for this poor lady's destiny, channeled through a wonderful performance from Viviane Romance. Quite powerful.
