Venus Beauty Institute

Instituto Beleza Vênus estreava há 25 anos na França. Esse filme me fez lembrar das histórias que minha amiga me contava sobre quando fez doutorado sanduíche em Paris nos 2000s, de como os franceses eram machistas (não que brasileiros não sejam, mas são mais dissimulados), é absurdo os diálogos que os homens tem com as mulheres aqui, mas acho muito didático. Enfim, amei. Ok.ru.

Not too bad, I suppose, it has some interesting little moments that hint at the possibility of a much better film. On the whole, however, it's too tied to the formulaic romantic comedy approach to storytelling and the little subversions amount to nothing in the end. It doesn't help that despite the solid cast everything is so scattered and the pacing so bad that the film has no energy.

It's swell to see a movie where the secondary characters actually manage to meet with some development. It's not particularly nice or pretty, the leads seem to have plenty of problems to work out or flounder in, and it starts to feel a bit long. Still, it's sharp & unpredictable.
