John Walden, a light-skinned African American lawyer, returns to his family in North Carolina after being away for 20 years. Walden has passed as white and been successful. He discovers domestic turmoil: his mother is trying to dissuade his sister Rena, who is also light skinned, from being romantically involved with Frank Fowler (Carl Mahon), a dark-skinned African-American businessman.

Another one of Oscar Micheaux's abysmal talkies. Whoever thought it was a good idea let Carl Mahon act in front of a camera must have been out of his mind. Mahon absolutely murdered Micheaux's first talkie The Exile (1931) with his laughable climax scene and continues the slaughter here. Mahon's final film Ten Minutes to Live (1932) is among the worst to be made in America during the 1930s. At least there was a reason for #oscardsowhite in 1932....
