Essentially Ryan Reynolds makes or breaks this movie. If you find him funny you'll find this funny. If you don't then this will ultimately be tedious to sit through. However I find his deadpan delivery to be absolutely hilarious and uniquely charming. Sure this has plenty of gross out humour, some of it works some of it doesn't but overall it's entertaining.

Charmless, lifeless comedy must (surely) be the nadir of this sort of leaden and clumsy teen comedy effort. Reynolds (who can carry a comedic tune with the right material) seems hopelessly ill-at-ease here, stuck as the largely "straight man" to a cast of overacting comedy types – when even a scatological joke fails to find purchase with this viewer, you know a film is in big trouble!

Van Wilder is the college movie for my time in college so it holds a special place in my heart. Ryan Reynolds shows up as the lovable smart-ass for the first time in this comedy. He is joined by a lackluster Tara Reid, who show the audience why she she should have been left back in high school with the American Pie crowd. Van Wilder is one of those movies that I can easily go back and watch once a year or so.

Watch-able but forgettable. I'm sure I found it funnier when I was 13-14 and I assume that's the audience range they are going for. Tara Reid is horrible and the idea of her playing someone with intelligence, was funnier than the entire film.

It's pretty funny. Actually, Ryan Reynolds is pretty funny and everyone else is sub par. The movie is so full of cliches and you know how every scene is going to turn out. Basically you can judge if you'll like this movie or not by how funny you think Ryan Reynolds is. At the very least this movie deserves credit for killing Tara Reid's career. She was terrible in this and she's never done anything of note since (besides a short stint on Scrubs). Good riddance.

The same formula as the many throwaway frat boy college movies, but this one has a slightly more intriguing premise. The cast is quite decent, the dialogue is snappy, and there are a fair few jokes that are actually funny and original. As well as a lot of very crude material and clichéd parts. It's hardly Citizen Kane but probably in the top 25% of its genre.

I can see a bunch of crappy ratings for this, and I would recommend it only selectively. However, its a comedy and it made me laugh so I can't dislike it. I realise I may burn in hell for this, but there we go. If you like crude, I imagine you've already seen it, but in case not, try it. Ryan Reynolds does well not be totally unlikable as well.

I hear there's quite a bit of deleted scenes on the DVD of Van Wilder, but I can't say what's left out. I never watched them, thinking I've already watched about 90+ minutes of scenes I would have left out already. I can't imagine what wasn't deemed worthy. Curiously, the DVD comes with everything one might want except the one essential thing: a barf bag.
