Valentine's Day is not terrible and does have moments of entertainment but with such a large cast you should actually care about at least one person's plight. The problem is every story segment is just rife with cliche, or annoying 10 year olds trying to prove their love, which makes for a failed film. The only redeeming qualities are a few funny moments sprinkled throughout the film but they certainly can't save it.

There's about 30 different characters in this 2hr film. You need a freakin' scorecard to keep track with what the heck is going on. It makes it impossible for you to understand any one character. I will say (can't believe I'm about to say this) but Taylor Swift was one of the bright spots. The whole thing with the stuffed bear is funny. Gardner & Biel with the bat is good too. But trying to connect these characters within the story will make my head explode, and that's the problem.

I want to hate Garry Marshall's cash-in, and all the stars that took part in this smash-and-grab job of a movie, but it isn't the worst thing I've ever witnessed. Granted, none of these characters have any depth, and some truly great stars go completely wasted (Roberts, Bates, MacLaine, Foxx), but the film is 'okay' for its intended audience. I found it completely forgettable and shallow, as all these actors make up about six minutes of screen time each, but endurable nonetheless.

What depth there is seems lost by being spread across several dozen increasingly cliche and agonizing miniplots of doofuses, douchebags and asshats in "love". So much effort spent trying to be hip and appeal to every demographic imanginable while at the same time a cynical and condescending dismissal of the holiday it names itself after. From the same city that produced "Casablanca", comes the best argument yet that romance is dead.

I blame Love Actually for this. The kind of movie that makes you wonder if it's one of the other versions of monkeys typing up scripts (though I'm sure the monekys would have done better). Beyond the blandness, it is just so offensively bad in so many ways without rhyme or reason. And all this cause I couldn't decide what to watch tonight. *cringe*

Not as bad as I feared - but still pretty bad. The main downside is the overall blandness of these little stories crafted ostensibly just to cash in on an already commercialised event. Some of the segments are not even worth having. Others meet the genre's low bar of expectation, but only thanks to a host of shiny glamourous Hollywood faces. Nothing about the writing feels natural, organic or human. In the not-too-distant future, robots will put writers like these out of business.

Essentially a re-hash of "Love, Actually" dumbed-down and commercialized for Americans. Like LA, it has some good moments, like Anne Hathaway's phone sex scenes (it's her job), and Julia Roberts' role is right within her (extremely limited) range. On the other hand, having George Lopez read and quote Rumi is utterly ridiculous. If you're in the right mood, it can be compulsively watchable (insert car wreck analogy here), and if you have actual taste and intelligence, you'll hate yourself for it.

Sex, we're told, is just what people do when they're into each other. Especially around Valentine's Day. The only thing that matters is whether you're "in love." Married or unmarried, straight or gay, young or old, it's a person's feelings--not a marital commitment--that determine whether a sexual connection is sweet or sour. (pluggedin.com)

Huge cast of great actors, but the story is all over the place and mostly very cheesy. There are a few comical moments but as a whole it's very underwhelming. It's mostly a long sequence of disconnected random shorts rather than any kind of coherent story. It's mildly entertaining, and even though it has tons of star power is mostly just a wasted opportunity to make something good. Awesome acting, horrible script, mediocre film.

I actually liked this movie. Sure it isn't the best film in the world but it was a nice date night movie especially on Valentine's Day! (I know I'm so creative). So this movie had me on edge because usually when they get a large cast of talented people together, I feel like laziness ensues and the movie suffers. This film on the other had was done quite well. I thought the writing and connecting of all the characters was very intelligent. Plus I mean this had Taylor on Taylor action, so win!

Some of the individual stories are pretty good, but it ultimately overreaches. Would have been a much better movie if they'd dropped about half of the plotlines and focused in a little more. That said, the Jennifer Garner restaurant scene was fantastic.

Romantic comedy that follows a diverse group of Los Angelinos as they try to negotiate a single Valentine's Day, the common denominator being a local flower shop. A 20-star pileup of romantic cliches that were groaners when 'Love, American Style' used them on television 40 years ago.... Doesn't have a plot, just a series of rom-com vignettes averaging maybe 15 minutes each, edited and shuffled to create an illusion of substance.

Look at the cast. That's all that needs to be said. In grudging addition, it might be considerate to say, by way of warning, that out of the multicultural, multigenerational, multidemographical alphabetical all-stars, Garner and Kutcher command the most attention. And it might be charitable to say that only Grace and Hathaway demand any more. It might, too, be appropriately pointless to point out the unbilled cameo of Joe Mantegna.
