I can’t watch old family videos because of the crippling pangs of nostalgia - hearing voices and seeing faces gone for years, this must’ve been a nightmare to make because I don’t like Val Kilmer lolo

Surprisingly good documentary pulling back the curtain on a famous actor. I quite enjoyed seeing Val's life both during his down time on set and his home life growing up. And I'm not even a fan.

An intimate look into what Val chooses to show you. It felt flat at times but that's probably fitting as the spark seems to have left his life. Ultimately a sad look at life in general because where we end up near the end is so much dimmer than where we started.

What I like about this is that it's a (possibly) accidental portrait of what disappointment looks like. Kilmer really shows us his youth filled with enthusiasm and some early projects that really engaged him as a young actor, and we get to see the accumulated effect of the real world ... a litany of projects that make him a moderately successful, but unremarkable actor in a sea of charming Hollywood stars.

The only thing more grating than listening to Val Kilmer struggle to speak out of his tracheotomy hole is listening to his Mark Twain impression.

This is a very personal look at Val Kilmer's life written by Val Kilmer and read by his son. He uses footage he has accumulated over his lifetime and is created as the cinematographer. It's an interesting look at a very complex person.

Beautiful documentary about a great movie star/leading man, Val Kilmer. Lots of behind the scene footage he filmed himself over the years.

Kilmer has always been an actor I've enjoyed but since the 2000s he's struggled to remain a prominent presence in popular cinema. This documentary offers insight into why, among many others. He's not in it for the dollars or fame but rather the work and craft. So many actors would jump at the role of Batman simply for the career move and paycheque and happily hit their marks and growl their lines, but to see the how it stomps Kilmer's passion, it's easy to feel for him.
