Uhh, don’t do scary 80s nostalgia themed drugs they apparently make the human body have the strength of tissue paper. This was 90 minutes of geriatrics just ripping apart millenials with their bare hands. John Carpenter is spinning in his gaming chair. Okay boomer.

If you're a fan of gory exploitation schlock, then "VFW" is a movie that is on your wavelength. It's got style and blood, can't really ask for much more in a movie like this.

I actually really enjoyed this re imagining of Assault on Precinct 13. The actors were perfect for the roles and the gore and action satisfied. My only real complaint was the fact that a lot of the time it was so dark you really couldn't see what was going on.

This was exactly what I wanted it to be. Old veterans killing people in the goriest ways. Just too much fun.

Basically boomer porn. The director saw "Assault on Precinct 13" and said, "what if it was that, but gorier?" I think if I saw this as a teenager, I would have loved it. Unfortunately, I have become a jaded old man, much like the characters of the film.

Maybe it's the absolutely perfect 80's synth score but this might be the best John Carpenter movie not made by Carpenter. The story is simple, somewhat fantastic (the gang & drug could've come from Escape from NY ), the men are tough & there's a political subtext - only this director hasn't been shaped by 60's liberals. If the heroes' dialogue was a bit funnier & certain things explained better (why does the gang have no guns; & why no cell phones?) this would be guaranteed cult classic status.

With obvious Carpenter overtones, VFW pummels the audience with 90 minutes of synth score and copious head wounds. There are plenty of great gore gags and no-one-is-safe type deaths. The film falters in its color palate, which ends of being a grating red hue and black. I lost much of the action in this darkness along with quick cut after quick cut. Still, an entertaining, if not superfluous, genre throwback.

More 80s than a lot of 80s movies were.

It's just fun watching a bunch of old guys--with a bond that was forged by the most dangerous of situations--fight off a bunch of people who want to kill them. I thought everything worked. It was trashy in the right ways, though maybe a little more finesse would have been nice. Oh well, I actually cared for these old men, there were some good laughs and some badass moments. Campy, gory, entertaining, occasionally awesome.

It's a gleeful, well-executed exploitation movie from the get-go, but I was hoping there would be some new element added to the fray as the bodies piled up. That didn't happen. The humor hits well enough and the gore is fun enough for me to recommend it.

So much gore. Solid channeling of John Carpenter and other violent bottle episode flicks with a cast that papers over some of the lesser elements.

Campy in all the right places. A fun time that knows its place and doesn't take anything too seriously.
