Even at a early stage of her career Norma Shearer possessed extremely likable screen presence. Here as a girl getting a lucky break in showbiz, only to let her confidence get in the way of a successful career. Oscar Shaw was a decent leading match for her, but there was no doubt this was Shearer's film, with Shaw effectively in her shadow. The story is extremely simple, and it's purely Shearer herself that makes this as sweet, nearly positive, tragedy.
