Up, Down, Fragile

I guess ideally i would have wanted more musical and less convoluted plot, but really what i should actually do is rewatch this at some point.

I have now watched almost Rivette’s entire filmography; he makes the same film over and over again. ‘Haut, Bas, Fragile’ cystalises this view for me, although in this case there is music and dance. For most filmmakers this would be problematic, both for themselves and the audience, as they would have neither the craft nor the ideas to make this a disciplined and deliberate process of realising a meaningful cinematic universe. But Rivette is not ‘most filmmakers’, his oeuvre needs to be savoured.

Paris no Verão estreava há 25 anos na França. Os filmes de Rivette estão divididos entre Filmes delícia e filmes barra pesada, esse é um dos maiores exemplares de seus filmes delícia, pura alegria no formato de musical de pequenos dramas, sem falar que Rivette é um dos pouquíssimos diretores que sabem como manejar filmes longuíssimos sem nunca deixar o espectador cansado.
