Having tried for 6 years to sit my ass down and watch the whole thing, I can safely say that this is one colossus of a film. Wim Wenders has accelerated into overdrive with this gentle breeze that's fried my brain.

Has a kind of hippyish sensibility and conjures a sort of whimsy, but overall this is barely watchable. Saw the 5-hour version, and, even though the second-half stuff about dream-reading technology is slightly better, the whole thing is incredibly static. With these things people naturally want to blame the producers for imposing their calculations on the artist, but one can only imagine the reaction when those who invested $20 million realised what kind of product they had sunk their cash into.

If Wings of Desire was Wenders' bid for arthouse immortality (no pun intended), a self-consciously Great Film that (for better or worse) constantly, proudly broadcasts its own greatness, this is the film where Wenders got to let loose with 100% unadulterated Wendersness. Predictably, it's a sprawling, indulgent, intermittently brilliant complete mess of a film, by turns visionary and sentimental, silly and gorgeous. Either way, It feels like a complete expression of an artist's vision.

I'm rather ambivalent about this one; it's both impressive in scope and hard to feel emotionally invested in. I really appreciated the 'futuristic' world building and ballsy decision to make a 4.5 hour road/world-trip movie that never plays to the audience. In hindsight, I appreciated the first half of the movie a bit more, though it is rather repetitive. Great soundtrack and some wonderful individual shots, but it never quite gels together into something wonderful or profound.

Wim Wenders is really crazy and made an 8-hour movie. I found the premise of this film to be really great, and I do like "road movies," but nothing ever really comes together into a cohesive picture. There are strands of great ideas poking out here, but I can't recommend it based on those.

It's all rather gratuitous I suppose, which might mean only that it really does need some editing, and there could be a rather punchy little movie in there somewhere. But when things start to pop you might enjoy lounging around in it, after all.

Versão do Diretor. BlurayRip RARBG.

An odd, stirring masterpiece with brilliant characters, storytelling, visuals and music. (Director's Cut)

definitely worth watching, even the lead actress' horrible acting makes you want to attack and burn the villages.

Loved the soundtrack in my college years, but left a little underwhelmed by the 5-hour movie. There's a lot of intersecting parts here, and not all of them have payoffs in this sprawling epic that sometimes felt like it wasn't sure who the main character was.

wenders is a bit kitsch, but there's just so much, for so long, that it somehow starts to work

Let me start by saying that I watch a lot of sci-fi of all types or sub-genres. Normally I really enjoy futuristic films but this one had a real tough time keeping my attention. They set in 9 years in the future and things are so different, come on, really in 9 years! Good actors doing a fine job, personally just had had a hard time connecting with the script. Anyway, maybe I am remembering wrong as I watched this probably 15 years ago.

Peculiar, but oddly unfamiliar, like being in a different culture. Even though this film seems to make perfect sense, I still found it confusing and felt myself being lost in it's kaleidoscopic mess of the natural, the unnatural and the beauty of both. Cracking soundtrack, too. (158 min. version)

Watch the director's cut. It's a whole different movie.

I saw the director's cut. Has some magical moments, but fails to involve me on any level. The beginning, with Dommartin sitting in her car with a longing look on her face, listening to melancholic pop music of some sort, that had some promise to it. But eventually it just gets more and more unfocused and weird. Too bad.

Lovely, fanciful film. Wenders discusses love, reality, and life as we know it, compellingly. The film also boasts a remarkable score featuring original compositions by such artists as Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, and U2.
