It will hold your attention because of the storyline, if you can get past the fact that it's completely unrealistic and silly. Dialogue isn't particularly great; characters aren't fleshed out; and the acting is just okay. Straight to DVD makes sense.

Jackson never goes even a shade overboard and keeps the movie almost compelling for the most part. Still, it is too drowned in overly self-serious social commentary and never commits to telling a proper story.

I'm not sure if Unthinkable is worth watching, primarily because it's ultimately a preachy effort with a repetitive narrative. But if you're okay with a film making sure it gets its point across, and you want to see a couple of very intense performances from Sheen and Jackson, this just might be the film for you. Just don't be adverse to torture porn, as there's a whole lot of questionable tactics used during interrogations in this movie.

1- Every muslim is a suspected terrorist 2- We simply can do anything to ensure our safety 3- Iran is baad (Drugs are bad) 4- If we want to make this movie watchable, there must be some "we are/were wrong too" messages. 5- Where are the drugs that make you talk everything inside the head?

"Unthinkable" seems implausible and borderline preposterous, but it's a thoroughly engrossing and stinging film while it plays out. The actors all do well, especially Michael Sheen and Samuel L. Jackson creating memorable characters. While it may be easy to dismiss this direct-to-DVD flick, it's actually 'Saw' for a crowd looking for a little bit of intelligence and social commentary in their gorefests, but beware--this is a tough watch.

The moral issues (torture, "the greater good" argument, consequentialism) are tackled head-on and heavyhanded, but it's not completely without merit. It's a thorny issue bound to evoke an ethical response ("i condone it!", "i don't condone it!") even if the movie itself ultimately takes the safe middle road known as "on the one hand, on the other hand". Moss is awful, Sheen is convincing in somewhat of a caricature role, Jackson is Jackson and everything is fairly well paced. Worth seiing.

The whole story is contrived and improbable. The mechanics might be possible, but the overall strategy made very little sense, and was basically a backdrop for making the most horrible decisions. The ending really fell apart badly with a logic holes and actions out of character. Almost everything was built on setting up the ending, but the final act failed on several levels. They attempted to get a bit of redemption with the last few seconds. Worth watching once, not not twice.

At least the cast is good. It’s incredibly generic but with just enough edge to make it feel gritty for the more casual audience, and it mostly shows the aftermath of the violence so as to not be too graphic. The direction and score are both basic enough to be for a Lifetime Movie Network production. The script however is the biggest offender. There’s hardly a plot and the characters are flat. The films only purpose is to preach the same points over and over again. The acting carries it hard.

Hmmm, I wonder why Israel was left out of the plot about a muslim terrorist trying to influence US foreign policy. Would've been better off doing some lobbying. Didn't go far enough with the torture, should've merked those kids.

The worst thing about the movie is that it gets repetitive to the point where it almost takes away from the issue it brings to light. I commend it for being brave enough to touch on that material head on, but the pacing could have been tightened up a bit, and I'd have liked a little more closure in the end, but overall this was a solid thriller and definitely a career highlight for both Jackson and Sheen.

It felt like every other terrorism-related show from the same era. It's dark, it's bloody, it's the usual Samuel L. Jackson character... It doesn't raise any new questions and doesn't answer any old ones. Predictable plot with just as a predictable ending.

If one can get past the anti-Moslem posturing, the heavy-handed script, and a couple of implausible turnings in the plot, the acting gives the film some value.

Solid cast with some decent tension until it shits the bed towards the end. It wasn't QUITE great which may be why it went D2DVD back when that was still a mark of not being great. Didn't realise who had written it until the end. A technomage should be able to do a bit better, but not a bad effort at all.

Movies have been churned in and out regarding terrorism. Few have managed to be good and few have managed to be even great. But hardly any other movie comes to my mind, as far as the tension or suspense in this movie is concerned. The pendulum of crisis oscillating absurdly and the resulting friction among all the characters, is bound to generate conflicting emotions. Samuel L. Jackson is superb and Carrie-Anne Moss gave an equally stellar performance. Fine, fine piece of thriller.

Another 24-season-condensed-into-90-minutes job, here deciding to focus on the hows, whys and ifs of interrogating a known terrorist withholding life-saving information. It's a bit heavy-handed but manages to balance the moral arguments (for the most part), is engrossing for its duration, and sports a decent cast for the roles. The daft climax comes as standard, but at least you're prepared for that. Could've been better, but it certainly could've been much worse too.

Deeply disturbing but compelling drama, which deliberately distorts both sides of the torture debate in a quite confronting way. While initially it appears that Jackson's behaviour is cartoonish (and exploitative) the film itself becomes a quite challenging and thought provoking meditation on its subject matter, helped by committed performances from both Jackson and Sheen.

It raises some interesting questions, although none that haven't been touched upon before, and the performances from the two male
leads are great (I especially liked just how casual Sam Jackson was in his brutality) but it ultimately spends too much of its time going around in circles and preaching its anti-torture message.

My university professors actually urged us to watch this movie to see how hard it can be in some situations to judge whether a person should be tortured or not. Good idea for a movie, this way the importance of the subject gets some notice.

Very decent movie that gets more intensive by the second. Sometimes it looks quite cheap and some of the actors are not convincing in their roles, but Sheen and Jackson are, especially Sheen is really really good (no surprise here) and the script gets more drastic towards the end. Be sure to check out the unrated version in order to have more food for thoughts afterwards...

Implying any drastic measure can be taken for safety instead of trying to solve problems in peaceful ways -or offering the other cheek, one may say- this one is a real menace. It was sad to see the great Mr. Jackson, and other fine players in such context. The makers of the movie may say that the whole point was to show and condemn the current shit but that's not what was accomplished here.

Samuel L. Jackson fucks this dude up for about an hour and a half. He's also smarter than everybody else. Very graphic and violent, but I thought it was pulled off really well and never dipped into that "eww cheesy" territory that other similar films do. Unrealistic for sure, but oh well. It's a movie that has the ability to polarize (as in, is he justified in doing what he's doing if it gets to the truth, which is a pertinent question), and you're left with a watchable flick to back that up.
