Like the Resident Evil franchise the Underworld films were initially very decent, but they're both grasping for straws in their storylines by now. Still it has some cool action sequences (The CGI are at times pretty lame though) and Kate Beckinsale in latex - so what's not to like about that? I only have one question... Where does she hide her extra clips for the guns? She seems to run out of bullets quite a lot, but then all of the sudden she's fully loaded...

The action is okay. But who cares? The best reason to watch crap like this and the 'Resident Evil' franchise is that Kate and Milla are gorgeous. So I guess it doesn't really matter that this is pretty damn bad. And the filmmakers even have the good sense to leave out unnecessities like plot and keep the running time mercifully short. So thanks for that.

You're watching Underworld: Awakening to see Kate Beckinsale in a bunch of action scenes while dressed in her leather catsuit. You get that. The action scenes are slick and well-made, the lycans look better than they ever have before, and the ending sequence, involving at least three distinct battles, is satisfactory, even if the ending as a whole promises much more than it delivers. I had a good time, even if this installment completely ignores all of the history and back story of its universe.

This thing looks strikingly like a video game--one of those ultra-detailed, gothic ones--and its intended audience seems to be kids that look at nothing else, since the taste and intelligence level are exactly that of a video game, too. I will never understand this cultural fascination with vampires. And what is this flick trying to say by having all the un-humans speak with British accents? They may actually be onto something.

Back to urban scale, Selene wakes up after years in coma to find a daughter, Speedman is not around anymore (thank God) and that purges nearly killed every last Lycan. The Swedish duo provides longer shots and fewers cuts, as super Lycans and well-trained human soldiers with silver bullets represent the new threats. Selene meets the Divergent dude in a whole new pack of uptight vampires, but that's not a real problem for now -- there is no old ancestor, just contemporary cleansing still active.

This is actually better than the previous (dreadful) installment of this franchise. Kate Beckinsale still can't act and her co-stars are all terrible but it does have moments of high camp value. The Lycans hopping around trashing cars is amusing and so is every acrobatic gun scene which ends with a sexy pose. That's to be expected but there are gloriously preposterous moments of gore such as a silver dust grenade gibbing a werewolf from the inside out. Watch it in 3d if you must.

Disappointing run-time and ending, but decent fight scenes (even they don't feel like enough) which is all I ask of an Underworld movie. Definitely needs some more interesting characters besides Selene, because she ain't cutting it whenever she's not killing something.

I shouldn’t talk, I enjoy the Resident Evil franchise. But Kate Bekinsale is just a superkaren in black polyurethane whereas Mila is the Ginger to her Mary Ann. The plot holes in this series deflate the parbaked cake of emotional payoff, whereas they are the main course of ironic hilarity in the RE franchise. 🤷‍♀️

A touching little story about a murderous vampire and her psychotic demon daughter. So glad those two made it out alright! Relies more on CGI than its predecessors, which hasn't aged well, but practical FX are still utilised and welcome when seen. Action is decent and the story is serviceable. It's a damn lot more compelling than Rise of the Lycans, let's put it that way. Charles Dance makes an appearance, which delighted me to no end. Unfortunately, he's underused and plays a bit of a wimp.

Vengeance Returns" Selene (Beckinsale), the vampire warrior, has just awakened from a 12-year cryogenic sleep. The world has changed dramatically in that period: Man has discovered the existence of vampires and werewolves, and wages a relentless war to wipe out both immortal species.

Beckinsale is back in the films and at almost 40 years of age looking as hot as ever, and by now she really gets the role and does a great job at it once again. This one has a good story to tell and the effects are back to being great.

Eh it's fine. The Lycan's look like they've been done by Ray Harryhausen most of the time though. Which was fine when he was doing it, but not when you're doing it with 21st Century CGI

It's terrible and nonsensical and overly blue, plus it seems blissfully unaware that the Kate Beckinsale character is clearly the bad guy in every situation, but I love the store that sells tasteful wool trench coats and tacky vampire tooth tchotchkes.

Kate has never been more beautiful. She seems to get better with age. I wish I could say the same about this latest Underground installment. The special effects were often shabby and rushed. Sets were dark and dingy or clinical. Fortunately Kate filled the screen often so I was pleased by that. So many plot holes that could have been fixed by adding a few scenes to glue things together, but instead you have to turn your brain off to enjoy it.

I would be ranking this much, much lower, but there are enough surreal, visually enigmatic scenes and narrative fragments on the verge of cohesion to make me wonder if there might actually be something clever going on here. Until I happen to see it again and decide, it's stuck in limbo.

A very action-orientated and focused chapter in the series, and that and a more badass 'Selene' is a welcomed freshness. Still more miss than hit in the action-sequences though, and the plot isn't much to care about. *Preview*: #12#, exp-2*, popcorn, hype, 'pt1-3', Kate.B/7-3, R3.

Short and full of action. I thought the 10 mins of action at the start really dulled the senses rather than setting anything up, and it couldn't grab me once the film slowed down and tried to tell a story. Selene is pretty unlikeable in this really, streets away from the first movie which I still like a lot. Plenty of gore and action, but it ultimately felt hollow with nothing supporting it.

The 4th installment of the Underworld series. This movie is once again about Vampires and Lycans fighting each other... except now there is the human element where humans are using UV ray guns and silver bullets to fight off the swarms of Vamps and Werewolves. The story is pretty thin, involving another Lycan/Vampire hybrid. Kate Beckinsale is still in tight leather. So not a lot different in this. The action is really wonderful and the make-up work is excellent. A brainless movie to watch.

Can manage to follow the plot even missing the first half by accident. A film that is good if you just want to see mostly senseless fighting, but don't look too hard for plot development.

It's a cool idea to take the series somewhat away from vampires versus lycans and turn it instead towards the battle of both against humanity once they are discovered. At least on the surface (DUN DUN DUN!). I was really digging it, it gives you the action you want, it has a storyline you can work with even if you're not a big connoisseur of the series, the CGI is forgivably crummy in places but it has characters that I feel are worthy of empathy. A bit quick & a bit short but worth your time.

All Selene. All Action. All The Time! Telling a story was definitely not one of the goals for the swedish director duo who took on the 4th movie in the franchise. Instead it seems they wanted to make up for the 3rd movie lacking Kate. If you enjoy a bunch good supernatural fight scenes, then Underworld Awakening is one to watch. On the plus side, Underworld has for me always been the only franchise to successfully copy the look and feel of The Matrix, that we all love so much.

Don't really blame Speedman for staying away from the series if this is what they produce. It redeems itself during the second half but is mostly horrible. Atrocious dialogue, large sections of nothing and some dumb action sequences. They tiptoe around Speedman's character being in the film, but he's not played by the same actor. That says enough. The only thing that saves the film is Kate looking bad ass in leather.

The story is a mess and there are a lot of things which seem to come out of nowhere and go unexplained. But the action and effects are of high quality and basically carry the film. Overall, Underworld: Awakening does not live up to the standard maintained by the first three films in the series; the whole project feels like it was made on a budget 30-40% smaller than the preceding installments.

While not awful this is easily the worst in the series and I wasn't even a fan to begin with. It has some good music though but the rest of it struggles to get above simple mediocrity. The film doesn't even have a proper conclusive ending.

Saying this was bad would be a lie. Saying that UW Akakening is boring bullshit? Bullseye! Ridiculous action scenes and a non present story destroys the (in my mind) good prequel movie, which appeared in 2010 "Rise of the Lycans". This was almost nothing.

It's not a good movie to start with, but the 3D sure made it worse. It's just more of the same here, but with almost no plot at all. I don't even really remember what happened in the film anymore. Very little, as I recall. There were a couple of kinda cool action shots, but nothing we haven't seen before. I found myself bored. Pretty much the only good thing was Kate Beckinsale. And I don't mean her acting, which was completely void of emotion. I just mean how hot she is in skin-tight leather.

Ok.. pretty much a standard action movie with a weak story. But you gotta admit, you're not gonna just let it go by without watching it :). It's a must see for that reason, and only for that reason.. because after you watch it, you tell yourself "I knew it" and "I told you so" it's not going to be anything special anyway :). More of the same, only this time it's in 3D, and this is the first 3D movie I've gone to that I didn't even notice was in 3D. Much like Kate Beckinsale, everyone's talking about how hot she is, I didn't really even notice in the movie and now it's over I completely forgot what she looked like. This series will always get a couple points up from me simply because I have an undue bias toward werewolves.

Kate Beckinsale, vampires, werewolves, cool action scenes, pretty good visuals and atmosphere... check. But then I felt like the movie fucked me because the movie set up a sequel in the worst possible way ever... by lacking content. I mean c'mon, you were doing SO GOOD, add another half hour onto this short as hell movie and then I probably have no complaints. Entertaining but that really irked me. Still see it, though.

The long-winded narration that opens each film now sounds like a reminder of mediocrity 2 come by this point. Having said that, this is 1 of the better sequels if 4 no other reason than it's short & the latex-clad Beckinsale's back. There r actually some surprising plot twists as well & the non-stop action sequences r decently staged. The film only derails when it stops 4 a ridiculously clichéd discussion about whether it's better 2 hide from persecution or fight back, but it's thankfully brief.
