Romantic/psychological melodrama with noir tones, not awful but leaning toward tedious and predictable. Katharine Hepburn is the best thing about it, although it doesn't make the most of her talents. Robert Mitchum is pretty much wasted as well. Watchable but forgettable, and rather long.

A good movie, especially the climax.

After the first ten minutes or so of a manic Hepburn, the film settles in to being a brooding psychological drama, partly a jealous love "triangle" and partly a mystery about a long-missing brother. It never quite hits any tense moments until the movie's all but over and you're pretty sure you know exactly how it will end (and you'll probably be right). It's competently made and the actors are good; it just felt like a bit more editing to get to the point quicker would have made it better.

Odd noir that kind of plays more as a romantic drama than noir at times. It takes forever to get going, as its run time is 116 minutes, far longer than most noirs of the period, and it just doesn't need that. Has a lot of Suspicion or Shadow of Doubt in it, though it's not nearly as good as those films. Mitchum's role is small. Hepburn is magnetic as usual but it's a disappointment given the amount of talent.

Liked the mood of this one. A slow reveal with increasingly dark tones. Robert Taylor returns from the war and changes his image to a more dangerous one, while we're also served a rare and uncomfortably soft Robert Mitchum, with a charming Katharine Hepburn getting increasingly uneasy trying to unravel the mystery of her husband and his brother. One can argue Vincente Minnelli took a little too long to create the suspense, but there was enough nuances going on here to get me deeply engaged.

Pretty enjoyable. If I have one issue it's how drawn out everything is, especially at the beginning. For all the setup I was never particularly convinced or interested in the main relationship. Still, Hepburn is good and there is something compelling about the creeping darkness of the film.
