Quite entertaining movie, mainly because of the interaction between the 3 maincharacters. The whole war/morality issue feels a bit forced , and Nolty handles his camera as if he never had touched a camera before. I can't get enough of that marvelous laugh of Hackman these days. What an actor he is, he dwarves Nolte, who has a couple of great moments by the way.

It's good, especially under a hostile Reagan administration climate in 1983. But when you consider all these happy coincidences in the plot, they diminish the positive aspects. I guess it's because of Hollywood style infantile story telling and its consequences

Realistic, taut and sometimes brilliant. Joanna Cassidy struggles amongst an otherwise great cast. A fine companion piece to The Year of Living Dangerously.

Riveting thriller with one of Nick Nolte's finest performances as an American photographer in the thick of the revolution in Nicaragua. Jerry Goldsmith's does its part to sustain the tension although it loses its way, just a little, when the Nolte-Cassidy-Hackman love triangle becomes the focus. All three stars are excellent as are Jean-Louis Trintignant as a shady French businessman and Ed Harris as a sleazy soldier of fortune.

Surprisingly decent, solid, and fairly intelligent story. The script is well written, and production is almost ambitious. A bit too much focus on melodrama to be an artsy movie.

Somewhat overlooked war-drama with a great cast.

What a great directed, scripted and well acted movie. Why can Hollywood make movies like that anymore. Under Fire is questioning the ethics of journalism and the sort of circumstances which compel individuals to look at the bigger picture. The depiction of the conflict between Hackman and Nolte, on both personal and professional levels, makes it a very rewarding film. Under Fire may be even more relevant in today's(2014) war torn world than it was back in 1983.

Interesting if not overly dramatic love triangle set to the ever romantic collapse of the Nicaraguan government.

Similar to "The Year of Living Dangerously" and "Salvador". Less serious than the first, more serious than the second.
