"This time nobody can say that what we're doing isn't right!" - Kotcheff just wants to relive the war in peace. Gene Hackman just wants to do acting rope-a-dope for two hours. Randall "converses with paramecium" Cobb just wants to blow himself up with a grenade. Entire swaths could be reduced to montage and you wouldn't miss much. At best its a decent team chemistry flick that shows each soldier as a prisoner of war in their own way, and how by rescuing the forgotten they save themselves.

Such a dad's movie. This is Kotcheff next movie after First Blood. But Gene Hackman is no Stallone, and this film feels just a right-wing gun-lovers movie so far. But there are some awkwardly funny scenes of male bonding. Then it gets very gay. And then they use chainsaws training for 'Nam rescue mission. Things start getting boring from this point. The half of the movie is spent on them trying to obtain guns for the mission. Some decent explosions in the finale, but not enough.

Really it's just not very impressive at all. It just never becomes anything more than a pretty average thriller as America tries to come to terms with Vietnam after the war ended. Gene Hackman is good, as usual, and Swayze has some good moments as well. None of the rest of the cast are particularly striking though.

This is a pretty solid military/buddy -movie. It's got the whole thing of getting the team back together, training, and then going on a mission with a lot of drama happening during it. Stellar cast and an epic soundtrack that I felt carried a lot of echoes from 'Aliens' just before I found out it's composed by none other but James Horner. Choose your favorite character -kind of a movie. Mine was Charts. Obviously. Also, the daughters of that one dude were very badass, I loved that.

Like hellboy76 said, entertaining cast.

This is like Rambo 2 with a whole gang of dudes. Honestly, that's the story so it's not so cool/amazing because it easier for them, but if you thought Rambo 2 was over the top this might be the movie for you. And if you loved Rambo 2 you'll probably find this in the likable range.

Same as many other Viet Nam revenge flicks, but this one has a much more entertaining cast.

Perhaps the best of the "Vietnam revenge" subgenre of '80s action movies. It's a simple rah-rah kind of movie, of course, but it works most of the time

Over the top and one-dimensional, but so what? It's a basic war film with Hackman, and it does just fine.
