An early Edwin S. Porter short that's sort of a best-of recording of an "Uncle Tom's Cabin" stage play more so than it's an adaptation of the novel. Although understandable for the time, this highlight reel of scenes from the book makes it so audiences need to already be familiar with the story to fully appreciate what's happening. While some of the set pieces are kinda neat, especially Eliza's frozen river escape, the wide static shots basically drain the life out of this lengthy early short.

If you didn't already know the story this movie won't make much sense. That being said it's not so bad and it's one of the longest movies of its time.

It's shocking to see something this immobile from Edwin Porter.
