Uncivilised

As with all the Tasman Higgins' shot Chauvel films, at least those that I've seen, the photography on location here adds a richnesses and vitality to the film that really fixes the viewer's attention. The narrative is outrageous by most standards (it's not just the 'Tarzan' plot), however this is the 1930s when such a storyline - the trope of 'newspaper reporter doing anything for a good story' - was commonplace. Hoey is trying to be Flynn but he's clearly not.

Bizarre adventure from down under. Sort of Australia's variation of Tarzan. The white man Dennis Hoey is not swinging from the trees, but he has been raised among the black natives and have a rough way about his manner. Absurd film on so many levels which makes it a intriguing look. A sample of whats in store: Aborigine titties, evil Afghans, strangling snakes, a singing white savage, drug smuggling, Margot Rhys's skinny dipping and so much more!
