With Nick Cage at peak nutso, this film is a brief, but ugly and horrifying detour back into seriousness. Unfortunately, despite Cage delivering a rare un-unhinged performance, the inclusion of Sizemore and Jane, and a $40 million dollar budget, none of this is enough to produce a competent war movie. A movie with the visual ambition of this might have been pulled off with about triple the budget, but it still would have been a boring, disingenuous drag of a flick.

The speech in Jaws regarding the Indianapolis is fifty times the film this is. Horrific acting and action make for a bit of a laugher. Sizemore is no Brando but he embarrasses himself here.

This movie tries to be an action film and a serious drama at the same time. Unfortunately the mix does not work well at all in this movie. The actors try their best with the material but the uneven script lets them down. Overall this film is disappointing.

Instead of watching this, you should just probably just watch the Jaws monologue that it's based on, and I don't even like Jaws that much.

Trust Americans to make a movie about the brave men who delivered the atomic bombs. Would be somewhat watchable if it weren't for the abysmal stranded at sea part which is unfortunately the main piece of the movie.

Some fun to be had with the bad CGI, but no other redeeming factors. Even Cage is disappointingly tame.

Certainly not the movie the story deserves - which anyone can tell from looking at the talent and the poster. There is, however, a couple of good scenes, and even fine acting, amidst the mostly horrible CGI and cheap-shot direction.

Well-crafted telling of a quite amazing story finds Cage bringing his rock-solid gravitas to the heroic captain, and his co-stars filling out the likable group of sailors. While clearly made on a low-budget, the carnage of the attack scenes are well done, and the highlight of the film is the ensuing 'lost-at-sea' sequences (featuring some quite nasty shark attacks).

I think one is better served by reading the wiki page on the story and skip this film. It's very average. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Indianapolis_(CA-35)
