Sheldon Bart is a drifter, and a small-time con man. He meets his old friend, Brother Bud, a big-time con man into faith healing and fencing stolen cars, at his revival tent outside a small town. While he's helping Brother Bud, he falls in love with Arlene, a local supermarket clerk who believes in UFOs and is deeply religious and deeply lonely. When Arlene has a vision of a coming UFO, everyone deals with it in their own way. (imdb)

A beautiful movie. Romance and top tier country tunes. Them cruising down the street and Fred Ward is desperate to pick out a fast food joint to eat at has to be one of the better scenes in 80's movies. Harry Dean Stanton ruled in this. Love that era of the revival circuit preacher. Thanks cinephobe!

REPO MAN for the country crowd. the best kind of american movie, just a space for driftin' and dreamin'. it never had an official dvd release, plus the director doesn't have a wiki page and never made another feature, all of which seems appropriate for a film oozing with this much cult appeal. if the aliens ever invade we could do worse than familiarising them with the work of ward, williams and stanton.

Trying to find meaning and salvation in our hellish and boring lives. Funny, charming, poignant, basically just a masterpiece. Has Fred Ward at his best, the always wonderful Stanton and Cindy Williams lighting up every scene she's in. This deserves a restoration and a quality home release ffs.

One of the most underrated movies I can think of. Not even on DVD to my knowledge when they release some real dross. If you ever get a chance check it out. Just a great set of characters and a nice little plot about faith & cynicism.

Gem of a movie about a drifter (Fred Ward) who wants to be Waylon Jennings, Cindy Williams as a UFO junkie, and Harry Dean Stanton as a con-artist preacher.
