U Turn

Billy Bob Thornton chews up the celluloid and shits a river of pure gold. And if that doesn't make you want to go eat some graham cracker s'mores, then I suppose you could just watch the movie. J-Lo gives the best performance of her career. May it rest in peace.

U-turn isn't even worth a double take.

The shortage of love for 'U Turn' mystifies me. Yeah, it's crazy, weird, ugly and over the top ... but that's what I like so much about it! The cast is insane. Penn, Nolte, Thornton, Boothe, Phoenix and Lopez are all terrific here. The exaggerated performances - along with Stone's experimental, kinetic style - reinforce an oppressive mood that is at times lightened by humor. It's James M. Cain-ish pulp taken to the nth degree, and the paranoia and levels of discomfort and tension steadily rise.

Dirty, evil and without any moral... you can feel the heat of the desert...this movie is brilliant.

haha, Sean Penn screaming is hilarious in any situation. "Is everybody fuckin everybody in this crazy goddamn town?!"

Excellent Sean Penn starrer thriller about a desperado stranded in a small town. One of the only two good films J-lo ever appeared in.

This is pretty much when it all started to go downhill for Stone, of course its still alright...but after this everything sucks

A fun genre mash-up that pits the thriller/horror breakdown-road movie against the tragic romance, the gangland chiller and the fish-out-of-water character drama and asks them to battle to the death. A little long but a fine, fun experience.

Intense story of deception and how lust can blind you. A bad temper and a small town can be a dangerous combination.

U Turn is an odd movie that might not work when you look at it after it's done, but while it's playing it's so immersive that you can easily overlook its flaws. It's set in the desert heat and it makes you feel as if you're there while its quirky cast of characters does the same thing over and over again. It's repetitive and its characters are incredibly thin and driven by plot demands, but it doesn't feel that way while it plays. Its actors are good, it has a style all its own, and is worth it.

A load of overstylized Stone-shit.

Bringing the most productive period of Stone's to an amusing end, Stone's odd little desert noir is full of despicable characters that takes formal risks while adhering to the genre's essential features. Shot on reverse stock which boosts the colours and lends the film an almost psychadelic look that is only reinforced by manic editing, the style is relentless, but it papers over the plot cracks adequately, and the cast give committed performances, including J-Lo.

I am PLEASANTLY surprised. U turn (1997) was good as fuck. I really enjoyed it, it had some humorous characters, but overall i cant say a whole lot without giving away the plot, its a simple one, but the magic is in how its presented, the visuals, not so much the tale, which wasnt so bad itself. i really like this one, its great, and it has a 90's era Jenifer lopez, hot.........as.........fuck. Oh, and the ending? motherfucking exquisite.

Pretty good movie, some interesting characters, nothing extraordinary. Is it just me or does Oliver Stone wish really, really badly that he were Jean-Luc Godard?

All I remember about this movie is that it made me feel icky and Billy Bob made a very creepy gasoline station attendant.

I really enjoyed this movie. I thought it was a pretty great film. A bit on the long/slow side, but it wouldn't be good otherwise.

Hilarious psychedelic crime thriller with an amazing cast....when Sean Penn, a lowlife who owes big money to the mob, rolls into the tiny, middle of nowhere town of Superior, AZ to try and get his car fixed, it starts a chain of events that leads to multiple murders and desperate plays for a large sum of cash. Satisfying twists and tripped out visuals, a great flick...even if it is essentially a flashier remake of John Dahl's Red Rock West.

It's not one of Stone's best pictures, but it is still stylishly done, with strong performances from all the major actors/actresses.

Well it's certainly a different movie and one of Lopez's better performances in film. It's got a lot of great actors but the movie is just too absurd to really be considered great.

Not great. In fact, not even good. The characters are all generally unlikeable -- there's just no root-for factor. And, the story's fairly forgetable even with the twisty-turny plot. Were I you, I'd skip it.

Oh yes, u turn in deed. The twist in this story, makes for a riveting finale. Also like the diner scene very much. Penn is in great form, as always.

trashy but very well acted

A kind of guilty pleasure, this is just a really great, very black comedy.

Oliver loves making a movie, so much i can never forget i'm watching a movie. But cool shots, alternative film stock & technique aside is there anything interesting like characters or story? A couple good scenes, Claire lights up the screen, Billy is amusing, else the slogging indifference drags on.

This is my favourite Oliver Stone film. It's not the most perfect one; there's a lot edge in it, but I love it. It's funny. I did not like much of J-Lo or the part of Jon Voight, but Bob Thornton was hilarious! There was also a brief moment with Liv Tyler in bus station. You can see the film as well a dead man walking story. Or better a purgatory.
