Two Distant Strangers

Predictable, topical extension of the 24 hour news cycle. Wouldn’t *dare* say this plot line isn’t a lot of people’s day to day reality, it - mostly? - is, but it just felt way too politically contrived at the moment it was made, like the whole goal was “awareness” accolades at the Oscars. The editing/cinematography also felt overly stylized & too hip for its own good in places. Would have been improved by nuance, comedy and irony, but it was all exhausting pathos.

Would be a lot higher if the last speech was cut out; i mean, symbolism i get but it's not nice to keep it hanging like that.

It's a well-meaning short film. Two Distant Strangers is delivering the message directly, but not as strong as I expected.

Oscar alan kısa film. Her gün sevgilisinin yanında kalkan siyahi gencimiz, dışarı çıktığı an polis tarafından ölmeye başlar. Bu durum dejavuya dönüşecektir. İlginç sahneleri olmasına karşın, ırkçılık konusunu çok iyi işliyor. George Floyd için de anma yapılmış. Tek kötü tarafı filmin sonu yok. Olan evdeki köpeğe oldu.

A really creative way to use the time loop formula. Not only do we get the familiar metaphor for a never-ending cycle, but we also get to see Carter represent and play out the lives of some of those for whom this short was made. The ending was strong, though it was really the only possible ending.

I was maybe expecting a more developed story line, but that's more on my expectations than anything. This was a very unique and fresh take on the "Groundhog Day" type of storytelling. It wasn't everything I was expecting, but still very good and insightful.

Not the most fluent use of the time loop gimmick and the symbolism is a bit on the nose, but it's an important little film nevertheless.
