In nineteenth century middle-Europe, orphaned teenage twins Maria and Frieda go to live with their uncle Gustav Weil, who heads the Brotherhood, a vigilante group trying to stamp out vampirism. But their methods are random and misplaced and the only result is a terrorised populace. The real threat lies with Count Karnstein, and although the twins seem outwardly to be identical, Frieda finds herself much more drawn than her sister to the Count's castle dominating the skyline. Pretty good witchhunter/vampire hybrid movie that's more fun and (surprisingly) less sleazy than it could have been with that title.

This is what happens when Hammer Films tries to do The Parent Trap.

There is a lot to like here, mainly in the enthusiastic performances of Cushing and Thomas, but the Collinson twins have some charm as well. No, not like that. Well, a bit, maybe. Anyway, I hadn't realised that this was the last film in a trilogy, and Hough made that mad The Watcher in the Woods for Disney that I used to like when I was a lad. This is a pretty likeable mashup of Witchfinder General and a daft vampire film, and is a fun way to spend an evening.

I was going to review this but to be honest I am still a little sore about Criticker unceremoniously banning adult titles and in the process deleting with no warning my landmark reviews of Brooke and Taylor Young's pornos. Letterboxd reviews of them are artless dreck. Mine were a mark of distwinction. From this moment [CanC]on I refuse to review any film that seeks to capitalize on the attractiveness of twin sisters. We shall see who comes crawling back to whom. Yeah I know how to fuckin whom.

An entertaining vampire tale with a few shocking scenes. I like how it manages to be critical of the witch hunters even while making the supernatural real.

Karnstein Trilogy may be Hammer's best. This one isn't as surprisingly erotic (for the time) as the first 2, but it's as compelling, if not more so. It certainly has the best feud: a Puritan vs. a libertine, & both of them are aholes, played by 2 fantastic actors. Cushing's great as usual but Damien Thomas really knows how to chew scenery in a perfect way for a villain. The film looks great too. Hough's compositions are beautiful even when they clearly didn't have the budget to shoot at night.

I'm being generous for the identical Playmate twins and Jimmy Kimmel Dracula.

Last in the Karnstein trilogy this is probably the best plotted and acted but it's by far the least fun and when the 'good guys' (led by puritan witch burner Cushing) seem far worse and murder more innocents than the vampires it's really hard to find a viewpoint I'm happy with. Eventually it does goes some way to evening the score but that doesn't make up for the mostly joyless rest of the film and the distinct lack of sexy lesbianism & revealled nubile flesh that the trilogy is famous for...

For decades, I only knew Twins... because it was name checked in a Misfits song. Though the film did have a noticeable lack of broken bodies in a death rock dance hall, there was plenty of 'please be my partner.' I mean, the movie's good, but the fun part is seeing how Cushing and Hough jumped through hoops to make this movie much less sleazy than an early-70s Hammer flick featuring twin Playboy models could have been.

So many burnings, so little time. Also yey for vampires and Peter Cushing.

Cushing seems a bit misplaced here; at any rate, this production is (if nothing else) a major boobfest.

Decently enjoyable but mostly feels by the numbers. It also low-key endorses puritan witch hunting (as long as its by decapitation and not burning).

The film doesn't make a lot of sense and it was hard to route for such unlikable characters but I still had a pretty good time and the ending was well worth my time.
