In this story of the early days of daylight bombing raids over Germany, General Frank Savage must take command of a "hard luck" bomber group. Much of the story deals with his struggle to whip his group into a diciplined fighting unit in spite of heavy losses, and withering attacks by German fighters over thier targets. Actual combat footage is used in this tense war drama. (imdb)

Looking back on it, TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH is not your standard war film. The only battle scene comes late in the film, and it's played less for thrills than for advancing the story, which is focused more on the psychology of combat than anything else. Future films would go much further in this regard, but it remains compelling. Gregory Peck is strong as the disciplinarian who eventually cracks; Dean Jagger is fine in his Oscar-winning role as Peck's aide. Good script by Sy Bartlett and Beirne Lay.

A solid movie about the stress of war, focusing on some fighter pilots and their general played by Peck. Good performances and well done overall, but didn't feel all that special. Being made in 1949 probably worked in its favor as it has some unflinching moments. Dawn Patrol does the same general thing much better, especially since the WWII context does little for this film..

The first minutes of the film give you a sense of what its about. Excellent story, great cast.

Good war film that lays out the "good cop, bad cop" routine, with the hard-as-nails general being named "Savage," just so you can remember who's who. A good reminder about what soldiers see and have to put up with, and how everyone has limits.

This was just propaganda with some nuance. You can't hard dick your way through brutality and expect to stay a person. Merely being tough doesn't deaden your nerves.

A little long to hit that Twelve O'Clock High (1949), but this war film does hit most of its targets. Great performance from Gregory Peck getting this outfit back in fighting shape. Dean Jagger got an Oscar for his role, and generally the film generates a human touch to the grueling war. Top notch effort!

Great film that highlights the psychological toll of leading men in combat. I loved how they built the tension using the returning plane count.

I've been trying to see this one for about 10 years. Outstanding WWII movie starring the legend Gregory Peck, and he really shows his stuff here.

As others have noted, it's more concerned with the man-management side of commanding than air combat itself. Still, its thoughts on the matter are a bit banal (probably accounting for Steve Bannon's love of this movie). The combat scenes, which include real archival footage, actually impressed me more.

Há 70 anos Almas em Chamas tinha sua première em Los Angeles. O Henry King é burocrático demais para eu conseguir gostar completamente de seus filmes. BlurayRip RARBG.

solid realistic WWII movie about the efforts of Gregory Peck trying to lead an American bomber crew. It's solid, but nothing really special.

Classic war film.

The focus here is almost entirely on man-management and the psychological limits of combat pilots, not action-packed bombing raids as the DVD cover suggests. All the better for it. It's fun to watch Peck's hard-arse routine as he tears into his charges. Redemptive journeys, a building cohesion and the tension of counting returning planes more than makes up for the lack of action.

This film depicts the horrors of daylight bombing over Europe during WWII, not from inside the planes, rather from the perspective of the command staff of a bomber group watching as the broken planes and broken men return from missions. General Savage fights to turn a failing unit into a combat effective team playing the harsh role of a taskmaster despite the hard toll it takes on his own mental condition. This film is full of great acting and will not dissppoint.
