A very strange but surprisingly heartwarming. It ends on one of the best messages I've ever heard about the meaning of life/death. There is a lot of symbolism and they carry the metaphors pretty far, but in the end this is about a mothers love for her dying daughter and her struggle to come to terms with it. I was brought to tears at the end, and found it much more rewarding that I ever could have expected. Some may not have the patience or forgiveness to appreciate the many liberties taken.

Like other A24 productions, you will be faced with a strange movie. And the fact that death can be a blessing

2/3 of this movie is awesome and the 1/3 is a little hokey but still good. The central core of mother/daughter is strong but Death itself is the real interest, heart and tragedy. The little it speaks and the way it does so is powerful. It has the most profound moments. Definitely an odd interpretation and film in general, even if it's a little flawed, especially with its tone. Doesn't matter, the originality, passion, emotion, intelligence, performances and Death's design overcome the blemishes.
