Truth or Dare

I dare you Hollywood to make good horror, I double dare you. I triple dog dare you to not hoot at this garbage movie. The dares escalate so quick from “lol show your weiner to a stranger” to “Stab your self with your dead grandpas dick” , it’s so not fair. They added a scene explaining why everyone didn’t just pick truth because some smart producer tried to stop this.

A pretty good time despite its awfulness. We had a good time. In between stupid CG smiles and an amazing break in the middle for the characters to namedrop Google and Facebook while doing some investigative dueling on Apple laptops (Apple logo centered towards cameras 1, 2 and 3 somehow) I found myself smiling my own ghoulish grin throughout. I wouldn't DARE lead you astray, but TRUTH be told this movie is balls. Wish Upon levels of enjoyment though.

Habitat for humanity really got fucked on this one.

These dares are total bullshit man, it’s always unfair instant death stuff (“Kill your friend right now”) where there’s no way to win, there should have been more risk-of-death but not guaranteed death dares like when the girl has to walk around that rooftop. Also so much of it is laughably predictable, my wife and I were correctly guessing lines before they said them by the dozens.

Its all I've hoped for and therefore recommended to everyone who likes movies that are dumb as fuck. Trashscore multiplicator: 3

Fine in the beginning, strong "Final Destination" vibe. The trailer spoils A LOT, and what it doesn't, is predictable. The big secret reveal is obvious from the get-go. Really annoying and illogical finale. Lucas picking dare to let the girls pick truth when they are literally ENDING the game... The demon killing Sam to get the knife... Transferring the game to unwilling participants over the internet... What a joke. I wish someone had dared the writes to make a logical ending.

I understand the qualms with horror for people but I will come to their defense in terms of them being the representation of FUN cinema. Not those Marvel movies that cost a literal billion dollars to make. That's not film making.

Forgot I saw this. Honestly glad this didn't get an R rating because this was barely a horror film, more of a film of torturing these teens(?). So with a higher rating it could've used gore too much. I know it's stupid to point out characters being idiots but godamn I would never follow my white friend into a destroyed Mexican church just because she wants to fuck a guy with a shitty beard, like those don't spawn on college campuses every hour.

For how much fun I had with this I'll say it's my favorite game-to-movie adaptation since Battleship. Oh and Ron-Ron was The MAN!

It's a really bad movie for sure, but I had a fair amount of fun. At least 10 actual laugh out loud moments - most unintentional, but some actually feel like genuine attempts at deadpan humor (which is probably giving this way too much credit, considering how dumb the rest of it is). Falls way short in originality and execution of challenges and death set pieces. Could have been pretty memorable if it went full Final Destination, but it's only about 10% there. I'll forget this within 3 months.

ruth or Dare is a dumb movie that thinks it's much more clever than it ultimately is. It follows a bunch of inconsistently written dummies as they try to not die from a cursed game that had the potential to have boundless creativity and depth, but has little of either. Its actors aren't very good, and it isn't at all scary. Mostly, it's laughable. There are a couple of intentional jokes, but the majority of them were not. Truth or Dare is a really bad horror movie.

Truth or Dare isn’t a good movie by any means, I hardly qualify it as a horror movie. Weirdly enough, the characters are a tad better than traditional horror characters. They at least have something to them, even if it’s dumb. It makes the hilariously bad elements of this more engaging, and it’s a really easy movie to power through. It’s the equivalent of a midnight McDonald’s run, you probably don’t need it, but you aren’t mad about it afterwards either. So…it’s fine in a weird way.

Inconsistently: The Movie

The beginning of this movie wasn't bad and reminded me of films from the '80s like Night of the Demons but as it went on it just kept getting worse and worse. Also the "possession" look was stupid as fuck.

It's no good. Some fun interactions, but mostly just dumb Snapchat filter demons. That's not an exaggeration.

With everything this film lacks it is still a very hard film to hate. Lucy Hale and Violet Beane did great with a poor script and terrible visuals. Plus the ending was kinda cool for a horror of this nature. It was by the books as the plot escalated which hurts the film the most. It could have been compelling but it ultimately takes to long to reveal its own truth. Sort of ironic right?

Another example of lazy writing that relies on an evil spirit and a load of supernatural nonsense to drive the plot. Lucy Hale was quite lovely in this. Effective music. The acting performances were good, but it was nearly impossible to enjoy the action due to the asinine plot.

It really doesn't know how to use its gameplay into the plot, so badly written. But I really liked the finale, when the game spreads worldwide through Olivia's truth or dare YouTube video.

You know, it didn't have to be such a bad movie. Had they grounded it in a realistic foundation, it would've made much more sense in a psychological thriller type way. Instead, they insist on replicating the idea set forth in Final Destination and made this a supernatural horror with laughable visuals when it came to demonic faces. Look, the movie just felt like one big joke after the next. Disappointing.

Mediocre, middling and not even unintentionally funny. The best thing I can say about it is that I didn't walk out, which I have never done anyway.

A boring killer kind of original at least different to others teen slasher although this one it is not exactly that.

I like the trend of recent horror films relying less on gore and more on story and suspense. Reminded me of Final Destination series.

My kind of horror movie in so much as, it isn't really scary, which is right up my alley because I'm a huge coward. I liked what they did with the faces, and the premise is not entirely terrible. What really failed to churn my butter was the ending. I get that you're paying off "the promise" between the girls but, that ending only leaves me thinking "these are horrible people who don't deserve my sympathy for what they've gone through". That's not really my idea of effective messaging. Shame.

Look, I like horror films. So this might be a slightly biased take, but this was okay. The premise was interesting enough and there were moments. Unfortunately, though, it isn't good enough to not be scary, and have a very "meh" ending.

Started off with some strong cringe potential but then became pretty average by the last third.

I don't quite understand why this piece got such a poor reception. It's that one in ten slasher movies that actually has rational and intelligent characters. Terrific one liners and self referential humor. The story ups the ante and keeps the mystery interesting throughout. Delightful conclusion. Effortlessly clever. Strong thematic cohesion. Movies like this make me realize the disconnect between myself and the rest of humanity... Have you guys *really* given it a fair shake?

I thought this movie was the OTHER bad Truth or Dare movie and I didn't notice it for way too long.

We all knew this was going to be a silly movie, so I am not disappointed by that. But I am disappointed by the supernatural god behind this whole thing asking for very lame things - they could have been much more fun-stupid!
