And just like that, I find out that the guy who wrote and performed the theme song Shaft, could've and probably should've played Shaft.

Absolutely batshit, but it's the little details that crank it up to 11. Like...the cat piss at the beginning AND end. This is Dirty Harry and Philip Marlowe lite. Everything a movie should be?

Like most blaxploitation films, it benefits from great music, on-location shooting, and characters & attitudes you don't see in mainstream films. It also has the usual downsides: poor acting (except Kotto), lame script (though the dialogue is occasionally funny), cliched direction.

Just when you think it can't get more entertaining, Yaphet Kotto shows up as a superpimp!

Cool-ass blaxploitation flick. What could have been a routine 70's crime flick is spiced up occasional offbeat scenes (like funny car chase, pimp funeral, Hayes getting it on with his song synchronised perfectly on the soundtrack).

Car chases, shootouts, bar fights, love scenes fading out at the right moment, and hanging people out the window to make them talk. Truck Turner is a blaxploitation action movie containing all the right elements to bore me half to death. No, Isaac Hayes roughing people up is not a good enough reason to watch a movie. Eh, I guess Kotto helps a little.

Hilarious, bad-ass and thoroughly amusing. Seeing Isaac Hayes blast away some suckers is worth a look by itself, but a cussing Nichelle Nichols and Yaphet Kotto as an alpha male pimp make it even more entertaining. Great music as well.

Sure, it was '74 and other than Lady Sings The Blues or anything with Sidney Poitier in it, there wasn't a whole lot going on with black cinema. It certainly wasn't being taken seriously, and in most cases, it shouldn't have been. Truck Turner is of the gritty, 'Sig Shore' variety of films from that era, but you can't beat Isaac Hayes kickin' ass. You just can't pull that shit on Truck Turner! I give it a 65 just for the pure 70s feel of it.

Daaamn, this was a pretty tight movie. Sometimes I feel like many crime movies of this era are a little bit too over the place and the pacing gets weird, but Truck Turner keeps the action and plot going at a solid rate. The shootout at the hospital was kind of hilarious (in a good way) and I liked how Truck had a steady girlfriend and also had a cat messing with him all the time. You give that woman a cat right meow! Isaac Hayes sings his own theme song = the best.

"Truck Turner" delivers non-stop action, stretching the bounds of reality, showcasing flamboyant pimps and a vengeful fierce madam, portrayed by Nichelle Nichols. Seeing Uhura in such a contrasting role was an unexpected treat. While parts of the film made me cringe and the body count was high, I enjoyed the ride.

Highly enjoyable if you've set your expectations in the right place. Feels like it's on the cusp of greatness in many ways, especially in its writing, and sustains itself as a decently fun experience from top to bottom.

One of my favorites in "blaxploitation" genre which contains funnier lines than the majority of modern comedies. On top of that it offers kick-ass fights and chases at a rapid pace and a gallery of cool characters. Isaac Hayes does a solid job as the titular Truck "Mack" Turner, and Yaphet Kotto makes a a nuanced character out of what would be a stereotypical pimp in other films. Director Kaplan really knew how to knock them out of the park back then. Great stuff!

Isaac Hayes plays a bounty hunter who kills a pimp for jumping his bail, resulting in a series of retributive attacks by his pimp buddies. Some hilarious 70s fashions and a great cast, including Yaphet Kotto as an ice cold pimp daddy and Nichelle Nichols as a foul mouthed madam. Plenty of action with car chases, brawls and gunfights galore. A solid if unexceptional blaxploitation flick.

Damn, this movie is awesome. It's sometimes really funny and is extremely badass. It's funny how the car in the chase scene bashes into so many stuff, and it re-occurs in the hospital chase scene. DAMN AWESOME!

Nice blaxpoitation drama with the leads taken coolly by Issac Hayes and Yaphet Kotto. Not up there with the best but has everything you need.
