Triad Election

The first Election movie was good. Its sequel is great. Each shot and scene flows into the next perfectly, and while there is no character that is as dynamic as 1's Big D, everything just feels exactly right. The musical issues have been fixed to great effect, and it is helped by the characters already being established. It packs so much commentary on power in traditional structures into under 90 minutes and wildly entertains while doing so. Begs for a third installment.

maybe the immaculate nature of his sequels (see also: DGBMH2) is down to greater budgetary freedom stemming from their predecessors' success, but either way this is the greatest of to's crime films, albeit not among his more personal or idiosyncratic. it slithers along with the graceful poise of a snake readying to strike, and when it does it fucking pierces skin and bone. it's edited and scored like a seeping wound and the leads are absolutely terrifying. coppola wishes.

Brilliant! Compared to it's elder sibling, this guy is many levels up. Watching the 1st part after all was not a waste.

If Johnnie To's Election was an Asian Godfather, this is the Asian Godfather II (not that it was better than the first film, though).

Wildly fluctuates in quality, like direct-to-video one minute, and...well, something better the next.

More or less the same film as the first. Very watchable but doesn't venture into any new ground.

This sequel is not like the first. Has tension and drama throughout the movie, along with some great, gripping moments. I liked it, but to enjoy it you have to see the first.
