Things aren't going so well for Tommy Basilio. He lost his job because he "borrowed" money from the register... (imdb)

Pathos-laden drama about a couple of barflys stuck in an existential fug. Why do they drink so much? Because they have so many problems. Why do they have so many problems? Because they drink so much. The great thing about this film is how real all the characters feel. Go to any bar in any town on any day of the week and you will see the same people, all dealing with the same personal drama. Very sad, but very human, just like this film.

Trees Lounge oozes the Sopranos cast out of its pores so no further arguments to recommend it are needed

I'm going to say the same thing here that I said about Leaving Las Vegas, "Why can't you be more like Cheers?" It's always interesting to watch movies about people failing downwards as we've just come to expect the opposite at so many turns of life: the rich, politicians, nepo-babies, that idiot Jeff in the next office. If you like Trees Lounge but want to see people fail sideways and come out okay at the end, than I will again recommend Lodge 49. I love Lodge 49.

This is a great independent film. Steve Buscemi gives a great lead performance and does a good job as both writer and director of the film. The entire supporting cast also does a great job. This is a character driven movie, not a lot of plot but it is still really enjoyable.

Slightly depressing but always good character drama about alcoholic losers failing at life. Excellent cast, some cool cameos and it's over much too soon.

A really poignant little film about not living up to your dreams. Buscemi is great as Tommy, a loser on his way to becoming like the other alcoholics in his local bar. There's some nice black humour, but mostly it's just really sad.

A strong cast helps Buscemi pull off a pretty good look at self destructive idiots. It isn't great but there is definitely potential for Buscemi as a director.

It may take a few viewings for most, but this is truly a great film. Steve Buscemi writes, directs, and stars in this truly underrated story about the quintessential lovable loser.

Kudos to Steve Buscemi for writing, directing, and starring in this movie. Though simple in budget, there is a total realism here. Great ensemble cast as well.

A portrait of a loser as a middle aged man. This piece of small-town Americana is built like a Studebaker, reliable, sturdy, plain as white bread--a post-war remnant of a bygone era, depicting a time of forgiving good ol' boy culture when well-meaning if cowradly bums could coast by on small town hospitality alone. More of an anthropological piece than a movie. Consider it a prequel-in-spirit to Gummo.

It was nice enough. A pretty simply little story about a guy down on his luck in a small town. Buscemi does a good job in his direction and performance, and the supporting cast is good too. Chloe Sevigny, in one of her first roles, is great. I don't have anything bad to say about it, but nothing spectacular either.

Steve Bucemi is a fine director and writer and a better actor. This is a very correctly made movie and it feels like it shows the real life of an alcoholic. Also is always nice to see Chloë.

OK so it's been a long time since I've seen this but it is a great movie. All the pain of real life. The actors all pull this off as if it was their real lives. So very believable.
