Pretty funny stuff, albeit forgettable.

I have no idea how I came to own a copy of this movie. I didn't buy it. Nobody would be cruel enough to give this to me. I just have it and that makes me unhappy.

The thing that has to be said about this movie is that it is everything but a Harold Ramis or a John Landis movie. It's quite the opposite of that.

I saw this as a kid, and at the very least it taught me about kleptomania (which I had no idea about at that age). The trio of Cage, Lovitz, and Carvey really ought to be too much to handle, but it was the 1990s and so the zaniness is somehow mellowed by the period (in contrast, today it would be unbearable)

Not offensively bad, but still bad. It's not very funny and the ending is retarded.

A very by the numbers redemption comedy plot aboout three small time criminals unable to escape the scene of their crime is overall as bland as possible. Nic Cage's character arc is mostly underdeveloped and the romance arc is as forced as possible. There are a couple of laughs but they don't save the movie from being a christmas relic form the 90s. Also, several mentally challenged characters are played for laughs.

Harmless, mildly entertaining family film. There are some funny side characters, occasional Cage freakouts, and a few heartwarming moments. Cage's character arc seems to skip over the most important steps and the romance doesn't even qualify as an afterthought, but you could probably do worse than watching this when it will inevitably show up on an afternoon cable slot during the holiday season.

They have some nerve making this movie 112 minutes. If any premise deserved to be 90 minutes or less it's this. Dana Carvey does a weird accent, Nic Cage goes in and out of lunacy, and Lovitz does his Lovitz thing. The humor is there and I realized it was there but it rarely made me actually laugh.

Only somewhat worth it for Cage being Cage.

This movie has a really bad script and the direction is lackluster. I am a big fan of Dana Carvey but the voice he has for his character does not work at all. Nicholas Cage and Jon Lovitz don't come off much better with the lousy material they are given. The 3 leads have done a lot better work in other films. Skip this one.

A madcap Christmas comedy of the style that was popular in the 90s. It's no Home Alone, or Groundhog Day which its plot bears some resemablance to, but it's not bad. Cage seems to get bored and slips in and out of accents and his 'randomly over-emphasize and/or sing words or whole lines' routine. Dana Carvey's alright, but this movie is like 20% of his career. Jon Lovitz is...there.

Contrast with Christmas Vacation (1989), the heart of this story is not money, but redemption

It was ok from what I can barely remember, but because I can barely remember it then it wasn't memorable. The fact that Jon Lovitz is in it for some reason doesn't help things.

Not that great. Just long, not funny, and really not funny.
